A small example of how Small Christian Communities function within the parish structure:

Small Christian Communities Changing Lives in South Sudan: Testimony from a Missionary at St. Joseph’s Parish, Narus (Catholic News Agency for Africa)

Small Christian Communities are not new, of course, and are to be found all over Africa and probably other developing countries. They build on the Basic Ecclesial Communities of Latin America, and also on the well-established structure of far-flung outstations/chapels set up by missionaries in Africa and elsewhere. I just found this particular story to be a touching illustration in the words of a missionary priest, himself an African. Many of the traditionally European and north American missionary congregations now have large numbers of African missionaries - including Combonis, Missionaries of Africa (formerly White Fathers), Mill Hill, and the Kiltegans from whom this priest comes.
