Which of the nominated books would you like to see the group reading as a Group Read in September?

How To Vote
We have tried other voting systems but I have not been happy with them as not possible or easy to see who is voting for which book (which always interests me), so we are staying with the basic system. Simply leave a post saying which two books you want to vote for and I will keep a regular runnng tally.

1) Each person is allowed two votes but only one vote is allowed for any one book from a member of the group.
2) You do not need to use all votes if you don't want to.
3) If Voting for a book please be willing to read and discuss the book with the group once the Question Master has posted the questions on each section.
4) Votes can be changed anytime up until voting closes.

Voting : Saturday 26th - Monday 28th August

The winning book will be read in September.

The descriptions are below to help you choose the two books.

Into the Water by Paula Hawkins

Description
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely fifteen-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from, a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

While I really didn't care for Hawkins The Girl on A Train...I thought this one sounded like it would be interesting.

The Child by Fiona Barton

Description
As an old house is demolished in a gentrifying section of London, a workman discovers a tiny skeleton, buried for years. For journalist Kate Waters, it's a story that deserves attention. She cobbles together a piece for her newspaper, but at a loss for answers she can only pose a question: Who is the Building Site Baby? As Kate investigates, she unearths connections to a crime that rocked the city decades earlier: a newborn baby was stolen from the maternity ward in a local hospital and was never found.

What Angels Fear #1 Sebastian St. Cyr Mystery Series by C. S. Harris

Description
It's 1811, and the threat of revolution haunts the upper classes of King George III's England. Then a beautiful young woman is found raped and savagely murdered on the altar steps of an ancient church near Westminster Abbey. A dueling pistol discovered at the scene and the damning testimony of a witness both point to one man, Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, a brilliant young nobleman shattered by his experience in the Napoleonic Wars.

Now a fugitive running for his life, Sebastian calls upon his skill as an agent during the war to catch the killer and prove his own innocence. In the process, he accumulates a band of unlikely allies, including the enigmatic beauty Kat Boleyn, who broke Sebastian's heart years ago. In Sebastian's world of intrigue and espionage, nothing is as it seems, yet the truth may hold the key to the future of the British monarchy, as well as to Sebastian's own salvation....

The Night Stalker by Robert Bryndza
#2 in the Detective Erika Foster Series

Description (from www.robertbryndza.com)
If The Night Stalker is watching, you’re already dead…

In the dead of a swelteringly hot summer’s night, Detective Erika Foster is called to a murder scene. The victim, a doctor, is found suffocated in bed. His wrists are bound and his eyes bulging through a clear plastic bag tied tight over his head.

A few days later, another victim is found dead, in exactly the same circumstances. As Erika and her team start digging deeper, they discover a calculated serial killer – stalking their victims before choosing the right moment to strike.

The victims are all single men, with very private lives. Why are their pasts shrouded in secrecy? And what links them to the killer?

As a heat wave descends upon London, Erika will do everything to stop the Night Stalker before the body count rises, even if it means risking her job. But the victims might not be the only ones being watched… Erika’s own life could be on the line.

We have previously read #1 in this series as a Group Read

The Night Stalker by Robert Bryndza
The Child by Fiona Barton

I was torn between three books because I also have What Angels Fear high on my TBR pile. Ultimately I picked the other two because we've already got a lot of series in progress.

>11 Andrew-theQM:. I agree. I usually don't vote since I'm never sure if I'll be able to participate. I know that if I can join in I'll be happy with whichever book is chosen. My schedule is lighter than usual in September so I anticipate being able to keep up with the discussion.

We have a 3-way tie, so I think the easiest thing to do is read them over the next 3 months based on the order above:
September : The Night Stalker by Robert Bryndza
October : What Angels Fear by C S Harris
November : Proof by Dick Francis

JUST A WORD OF CAUTION
If you are requesting The Night Stalker from your library or any other source...be sure that it is by ROBERT BRYNDZA. There are two other books called The Night Stalker...one by Chris Carter and the other by Phillip Carlo.

>26 Olivermagnus: I remember. The library also got me the wrong book by the same title once. Now I always make sure that I give them the ISBN number as well as the title and author.
