I got my XO laptop (a/k/a the $100 dollar computer, One Laptop Per Child, or my goofy green laptop) on 12/19 and I'm like a little kid with a new toy--although I'm far from a little kid.

One of the first things I've learned to do with it is read PDF documents, like an e-book reader. Haven't had time yet to experiment with other formats, but it has an html reader and the OLPC website says it reader text and some other formats.

Has anyone else ordered an XO, and what are you doing with it?

I just got given one yesterday at Linux.conf.au - the screen is amazing, and I'm very interested in the prospect of using it as an ebook reader.

I was at an OLPC Jam this past weekend--about 20 people and a dozen little green machines sitting around. I've learned to do more than read e-books, but still find that is one of the most practical "grown up" uses for the XO, especially after I mastered the rotate screen button and can fold it over like a tablet to read on my commute.

I've been exchanging e-mails with a friend whose son bought a Kindle, so my friend was wondering how my XO compared as an e-book reader. I haven't seen a Kindle in the flesh (so to speak), but what I've read about it I like, for the reason I decided to get a G1G1 XO instead of the Sony--you can download e-books directly to the Kindle, without going through a computer.

Spent some time with the OLPC Wiki the past few days, in preparation for my first O/S update, which just completed. Came across (via several links) this article on using the XO as an e-book reader, with links to more articles:
