A link to a Bookseller piece about Emma Tennant's death mentions that her friend Hilary Bailey died on 19 January, aged 80. Her books included a short biography of Vera Brittain and various novels, some of which offered a feminist take on classic or well-known stories, including After the Cabaret referencing Christopher Isherwood character Sally Bowles, Cassandra, Princess of Troy and The Cry from Street to Street about women killed by Jack the Ripper.

It just came to my attention that Shakespeare scholar Marion Trousdale died in January 2017. Her writings included the well-regarded book Shakespeare and the Rhetoricians. She taught at the University of Maryland in College Park where I met and spoke with her several times. She was gracious and helpful. R.I.P.
