Here's a fun one. We all know this country's gone to the dogs, but who's fault is it?

The European Union - those ivory tower elites who hate democracy!
The Brexiteers - Farage and Boris and co. They lied through their teeth and duped the electorate, dragged us away from the one great thing about this country.
The metropolitan elite - all those champagne socialist types who know nothing of our struggles and scoff at the man on the street.
The man on the street - you know the one (he doesn't actually live round here, on our street, but somewhere less 'well-to-do'). Probably a closet racist.
The immigrants - stealing our... our everything!
The Tories - 'scum'.
Labour - them who spent all our money on benefit scroungers.
Lib Dems - traitors to a generation. Liars.
Westminster - just, all of them. Ugh.
The Daily Mail and the right wing media - The Daily Heil, more like! Scaremongerers, hate-mongers, all of them!
The Guardian and the left wing media - don't forget the BBC with all their PC bollocks!
The millennials - only interested in their phones and x-factor, want it all for nothing. Can't even get out of bed to vote.
Our parents - pulled up the drawbridge, ruined the planet and now blame us.
The NIMBYists - 'Of course, we need new houses/ schools/ hospitals/ railways, but I'm not having them round here. Think of the traffic!'
Margaret Thatcher - the single worst human being who ever lived, now shacked up with Hitler in hell. Friend of the banks.
Tony Blair - war criminal who killed millions, founder of the SNP; friend of the banks.
The banks - destroyers of the entire world economy, impoverished millions, didn't even lose their bonus.
Footballers - primadonnas, a national disgrace; rapists.
Feminists - also known as Feminazis; witches who are casting their spell over a whole generation.
Straight cis-gendered white males - pure, concentrated evil.
Jeremy Corbyn - friend of Hamas. On a mission from the 1970s.
Jeremy Clarkson
'Fascists' - literally any/ all of the above.

I'm sure there are others...

I blame social media. Harrumph!

I think future historians will find it was all the fault of Christopher Biggins.

For the record I blame the children. All of them. Fascists.

>2 abbottthomas:: "I blame social media. Harrumph!"
The extent of the inroads social media has made into British society was brought home to me by a picture in The Times yesterday of the people in the House of Commons around John McDonnell as he responded to the budget. Well over half the 30-40 MPs in the picture were gazing fixedly at their mobiles and texting rather than listening attentively. More like a tweetery than a debating chamber.

>5 PossMan: I saw that, too. I wonder how many were playing Angry Birds or whatever is the current favourite.
The midday news also reported today on a dramatic rise in fatal accidents on built-up roads in the last year - suggested to be due to smart phone use by drivers.

Obviously, it's all the fault of other countries and their influence.

As Flanders and Swan sang: "The English, the English, the English are best. I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest."

>8 abbottthomas: As a proud Welshman I am outraged. English nationalism (aka fascism) is to blame for everything bad in the world. I want Nicola Sturgeon as my queen.

On questions like this I usually blame Rupert Murdoch on the principle that there's a 99% probability I'll be correct.

>10 leigonj: with no other comment, here is the verse about the Welsh ;-)

The Welshman's dishonest and cheats when he can
And little and dark, more like monkey than man
He works underground with a lamp in his hat
And he sings far too loud, far too often, and flat!

Many years ago when I used to go on walking holidays staying in youth hostels the verses I remember being sung with great gusto was Men of Harlech. Also cropped up in school music lessons frequently. Loud and boisterous so no one knew I can't tell one note from the next.

>12 abbottthomas: I just looked up the words to that song (I assume that children learn it in school over there in Reichland, singing in perfect harmony while marching in formation). The verse about the Irish is an interesting one.

I am delighted at how this thread is bringing us all together.

I would also like to revise my prior comments and place all blame on London.
