On June 18th I finished my 75th book this year and am halfway to my target of 150. Do you set a target, if so how are you doing? If you don't set a target, how do you think your reading has gone this year?

Congratulations Andrew! I'm having a slower than normal reading year. I read 264 books last year and had a goal of 300 for this year but because of illness and trips in the beginning of the year, I'm off to a slow start so I pulled back my goal to 200. I'm still a bit behind and have not made the mid-way mark and should probably pull my goal back to 150. But, I'm still plugging along and enjoying my reads so that's all that really matters.

Yesterday...June 18 I read book #129 of 255 goal for 2016...so...(You will be so proud of me, Andrew)... I have 126 more to go. I have two that I'm nearly done with...Blood Infernal that we're reading for the discussion and Follow You Home that I just never want to end.

Hmm,bit confusing with me,since I have different lists and targets and am too disrupted with my husband being in hospital to think clearly, but I am doing surprisingly well. I sensibly cut down my goals for the year in 2016,mostly concentrating on my 12x12,which is at 75/144,just about level. For my SF/F not too brilliant 48/90 again looking good on paper, but I have a lot of HUGE tomes to get through,I have been reading the shorter stuff to at least keep the figures up,but some of these books will easily take 3 times as long to read. But who knows,if we ever settle down and stop having deja vue of setting up groups, adding lists, schizophrenia about posting in two versions of the same groups, and if Real Life would give me a break, maybe there's a hope of scraping through! lol.
As for crime,on paper I am doing OK,but I have quite a few books not part of my 12x12 or part of the M&S groups, but are latest books by fave authors,or books that have simply attached themselves to my physical bookshelf, and I have been just too busy to read them. Must be a dozen or more, outside my 12x12 list.I should stick them on the Roundtuit lists, though I've had most of them less thn 6 months. Normally rare with me to have many crime books lying unread. I only normally have about half a dozen crime books to hand, and read them within a few weeks, keeping the TBR fresh This year is peculiar in every way!

According to Goodreads, I'm 24 books behind schedule. Sounds about right for me. :0) I seem to always be a day late and a dollar short.

I've read 128 books of my 200 book goal so I'm ahead a bit. I want to leave some space for movie marathons, floating in the lake, playing some bad golf, etc. I'm trying to organize my virtual library too. I have almost 2000 ebooks and some of them could probably be deleted.

I remember in senior school, rumour had it that scientists were saying you could revise for exams while you slept: by sleeping with your book under the pillow ~ didn't work...

I always fall asleep while listening to audio books and I never remember what they were saying so I doubt that it works.

Lol! the speed is too slow,I never like the narrator, and its difficult to go back and check something(too far back,go forward, whoops too far, back again, still missed it.......no no no!)
I always feel as if I am eavesdropping, hiding behind a door listening to private things. And the thought of listening to sex scenes and the like? No no no no no no....... That medium is so not for me folks lol

>30 dustydigger: Over the past few years I find myself reading more and more books via audio. It must have something to do with the hour long commute to work.... : ) I prefer fantasy/science fiction and the "lighter" mysteries via audio. (such as: Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy, Michael Sullivan's Riyria series, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time for fantasy and for mystery: Chief Inspector Gamache, Mrs Pollifax, the Gaslight mysteries and the In Death series). However, I'm with Dusty re: sex scenes--I'm never comfortable when Eve and Roarke "go at it". (guess that's why I'm very slowly making my way through the In Death series) Without audiobooks I'd likely read a paltry 20-30 books yearly.

I didn't set any reading goals this year (which ended up a good thing since my reading was derailed for a few months). So far I've read 34 books this year (23 via audio). Hopefully that's at least ½ the number I'll read in 2016!

>32 bluebird_: I really enjoyed the Roy Grace Series by Peter James and the Tony Hill/Carol Jordan series by Val McDermid in audio. Also the Century Trilogy by Ken Follett in audio.

Have been in a reading slump for most of the year and have only read 24/80. Think I may be pulling out of it (I hope, as I miss reading but just had problems settling down). Finally bought a bluetooth speaker to use with my phone in the car so I can listen to books, particularly when driving to MN to see my family.

35Andrew-theQM

>34 punxsygal: My commute helps to increase my reading at least 1 hr and 20 minutes each day travel time with some meetings on top. I find when in a slump it is a good idea to return to a favourite book, series or author.

>33 Andrew-theQM:. Thanks for the recommendations Andrew. I do have Book 2 and 3 of the Century Trilogy in my audible account. I'm just waiting until I feel ready to make a commitment to all those hours! (and, I may have to go back and re-read book 1 since it's been so long since I read it. I doubt I remember anything!

37Andrew-theQM

>36 bluebird_: It was a long while for me between book 2 and 3 for me, but surprised as the book went on how things came back to me. They are major commitments but you just get so engrossed in this great story that it seems to move along very quickly.
