A general question as we come to the end of another year. What do people do with the CAT, KIT, and DOG wikis? Do they just update them with their reading and never look at them again or do they look back at them later? How are they useful in a way that the threads are not?

I generally use TagMash to find books for specific challenges, but if I haven't found anything that appeals to me using that tool, then perusing a whole list of what other people have chosen for that challenge often yields a winner. I personally don't follow the associated threads as closely as I do the wikis. I've also used the finished wikis to find books for other challenges. For instance, with this year's HistoryCAT, I often used the completed wikis from the Reading Through Time group to find fitting books.

I have also used Wikis as a reference guide, I am involved in the Reading Through Time Group and doing a Commonwealth Challenge and have found books for both of these by using various Wikis. I also use the Lists feature and TagMash options as well.

I hardly ever use the wikis, to be honest, although I do try to update them when I read something that qualifies. Occasionally they can be helpful, especially if I'm looking for a book set in a specific country or geographical region.

I use them to help me find a book sometimes when nothing comes to mind right away or if I'm unfamiliar with the genre/category, etc. I found them very helpful when I was doing the SFFF cat this year and the GEO cat last year. I know there are a couple of Bingo squares I'll be using them for next year.
