Chocolate? There's chocolate?

Phew! That last thread was getting hard to load. Now I can contaminate your thread with my...uhhhh....presence ("presents") again! :D

mar 12, 2015, 9:54pm

>2 lovelyluck: Um...oops. Well, for starters, you shouldn't be eating food off the ground. And you shouldn't be taking candy from strangers. :P Just kidding. Here's your chocolate. :) (It's actually a book cover, but in Sara Land it's a chocolate book, so enjoy! :)*

*Not responsible for cavities or sugar headaches. :P

>3 MickyFine: Yep, I can totally hook you up. You're not a cop, are you?

>4 Kassilem:

>5 Ape: Yeah, I know. :( Sorry. If it gets too big, let me know, and I'll start a new one.

Yay! Presents! Here ya go! Oh, wait, man bits. Sorry. *discretely puts money back in Micky's purse and digs around for something else* Found it! A Butterfinger! ;P

DVD #47

Torn Apart = La Coupure directed by Jean Châteauvert
Tags: drama, france, incest, dvd, NR
Synopsis/Notes: The story of a love relationship between a brother and sister and an eventual breakup that will forever change their lives. (It was quite an emotional, touching movie, but the ending was way too abrupt {Me: "Noooo! It can't end like that!"}. Very real feeling; real characters. Not just a sensationalist story. One gripe: I couldn't believe their family wasn't aware of what was going on until that point in the movie. And I seriously thought the niece was going to get in on the action. Anywho, totally recommended for those who love classy-trashy foreign dramas.)

mar 12, 2015, 10:32pm

Update on ILL: I canceled my request for Photography for Perverts, because the universities that had a copy wanted to charge me $15-20. :( Such a sad day for cheap perverts. I might as well find a copy to buy for that amount.

And more work-related stuff: not only do they make us wash our hands after we use the bathroom (picture that scene in Silkwood; kidding ;), but now we must . . . Yep, you read it right. :P I think L&I claims whenever I read that. Library staff aren't known for their danceability (is so a word!).

mar 13, 2015, 7:26am

>6 saraslibrary: - my two favorite things in one.... so like I can eat the book while I read it :) yippie! - although if you are dealing I wouldn't mind that syringe filled chocolate masterpiece -

*maniacal laugh* - don't tell my husband - I'm a diabetic so this is just between you and I.... and all of LT - but he doesn't read so I'm not worried on that front... let's just keep it on the DL :)

If that is really how Canadian money looks - I might have to pack my bags and move.... and brave the cold.... I could do it for a few of 20's everyday :)

>8 saraslibrary: - that is a ridiculous amount to be charged for an ILL - you are probably right you could buy it for that amount - although you might want to use gloves if you buy it used...

mar 13, 2015, 10:45am

>6 saraslibrary: Hmm, Queen Elizabeth has had some work done.

>9 lovelyluck: It's not that cold. :P

mar 13, 2015, 7:10pm

I think if money looked like that in Canada businesses would go bankrupt because no one would want to spend their money. :P

mar 13, 2015, 11:57pm

>9 lovelyluck: Exactly! Just tear out and eat the pages as you're done with them. ;) *slips Jennifer a couple syringes*

LOL @ but he doesn't read so I'm not worried on that front Well, ok then! *opens up her fridge full of syringes full of chocolate* Dark, white, milk? I also have some cocoa powder you can snort if you're more into that. Stephen, roll up those Canadian 20's, would you? :P

*straight face* Yes, Canadian money looks like that. Canadian men look like that, too. In fact, that's their president on that $20. ;)

I thought so, too (re: the money for the ILL). Yeah, I'd prefer to see what the book looks like first before I buy it. Somehow I doubt I'll find it at Half Price Books, but you never know. I might luck out and have someone donate it to the library! In fact, that's how I found/bought several of my erotic photography books; someone donated them and no other staff member wanted them (or was gutsy enough to admit to wanting them). The one I do regret buying is the slightly-water damaged Female Ejaculation and the G-Spot, because you just know it wasn't water. *cringes* It's not badly damaged or moldy (otherwise, they would've recycled it, and I obviously wouldn't have bought it), but it was one of those that I was flipping through later on at home and went, "WTF?" and then set it aside and haven't touched it since.

>10 MickyFine: She sure has! ;) And I'm loving it. No complaints here. Maybe she did it for Philip? ;P

*ahem* IGLOOS! *ahem* No, actually, it isn't that cold in certain spots. British Columbia's quite nice! I've only been there once, but I'd totally move there. The weather's exactly the same as where I am (just a few hops, skips, and jumps south of the border in WA).

>11 Ape: Ooh, good idea! Great way to bankrupt Canada, Stephen! *high fives Stephen for his brilliantosity* Btw, how's that Butterfinger working for you? *snorts, mock straight face*

Kate Moss: Model of Imperfection by Katherine Kendall
Tags: nonfiction, biography, models, london, england, new york, drug abuse
Synopsis/Notes: Discovered as a teen in a New York airport in 1988, Kate Moss ascended to fame when she was cast in a high-profile clothing campaign. Moss became known for her jet-setting friendships, hard partying, and a never-ending string of paramours, including her stormy on-again, off-again relationship with actor Johnny Depp. (Super quick read, but not very informative or current, seeing as it's about 10-years-old.)

mar 14, 2015, 8:35am

It tastes kinda plastic-y

mar 14, 2015, 10:39am

>12 saraslibrary: Milk and white please :) I'm totally up for snorting the powder also.... you have those 20's ready Stephen.... party on sara's thread... of course I would totally be jamming out to that N SYNC cd you have there too.... because like you know... I was totally 15 when they came on the scene and totally crushed on Lance :) and had to have every album, recorded every guest appearance on TV, and re-watched the disney concert everyday.... Hi my name is Jennifer - and I have (had) a problem :)

mar 14, 2015, 2:29pm

>15 Ape: Yeah, wait until you get to the center. You might get a zap if you bite the battery just right. It's a great pick-me-up! ;)

>16 lovelyluck: *tosses milk and white syringes @ Jennifer* I think Stephen's preoccupied with eating Micky's pocket vibrator. *goes ahead and starts rolling 20's for Jennifer, then gets preoccupied with staring at the 20's and starts doodling nipple rings and tats on "Queen Elizabeth"*

Yeah, it sounds like a party going on here! Bad kind of party, but hey, we're "reading"--or rather eating--books and starting what sounds like a self-made candy store and... who'm I joking? It's a junky party! Yay! ;)

*cranks N SYNC (though I preferred No Strings Attached a little better, who I know Stephen secretly loves, too* You crushed on Lance? :D My guilty pleasure was JC Chasez. LOL! At least you admit your boy band addiction. Nothing wrong with that. We won't touch on what's going here on this thread.

When did they show up?? o.o I think I'm tripping on sugar already. Easter on Easter Island with edible Playboy manga bunnies.... *drools* The one with a donut on her butt is mine!!

mar 14, 2015, 2:40pm

ILL Update (again): I think I mentioned not getting Images You Should Not Masturbate To on the last thread. But I also had to cancel Natural Harvest: An Inspirational Collection of Semen-Based Recipes and Semenology: The Semen Bartender's Handbook by Paul Photenhauer, because they cost too much to request them. And Stink Outside the Box: Life Advice From Kitty by Jeremy Greenberg was cancelled on me for no reason. No email; nada. *pouts* ILL hates me. :*(

mar 14, 2015, 3:16pm

>17 saraslibrary: "YES" they landed perfectly in my hand so that I could stab myself STAT!

Tats and nipple rings yum - wait is the money turning into chocolate too? I would still eat "Queen Elizabeth" with tats and nipple rings :)

it's a fun day sunday a day early "TURN IT UP"

I actually like the UK release of N SYNC because it had an acapella cover of Boston's More than a Feeling - which I loved - I still have a boy band obsession - it's just not common knowledge because

*inserts Matthew mcconaughey quote* "as I get older they stay the same age" - *grumble, grumble* Jonas Brothers *grumble, grumble* one direction *grumble, grumble* R5 - see what I mean? - at least I have an 8 year old that I can blame my knowledge of lyrics on even though I know them and she doesn't - and really all she listens to is Let It Go -

now those are some chocolate bunnies that would be welcomed in mine or my husbands easter basket!

>18 saraslibrary: those dang ole ILL they are stinky here let me slap them for you

Redigeret: mar 14, 2015, 4:43pm

>19 lovelyluck: LOL! Yeah, I hope those had caps on the needles. I didn't think about tossing them at you. It's probably not a good idea to play darts with my fellow LTers--even if they are full of chocolate (the needles; not the LTers :D ...though that would make the zombie apocalypse a lot more fun).

*waves wand* The 20's are now chocolate, too. :)

That's interesting about their cover of Boston's "More than a Feeling"*. I'll have to YouTube that one, if it's available. Yes, I'm a classic rock fan, too. :D

*I did find a really short live version of it from The Early Show. Not bad, but I'm still more of a fan of the original. :)

Was Matthew McConaughey talking about boy bands or girls? Doesn't matter, I guess. He's right on both ends. :) LOL! You're lucky to be able to blame your 8-year-old for still being able to listen to boy bands and such. I honestly don't know much of Jonas Brothers (though one of them is cute as hell! I forget which one) or One Direction or R5 (that's actually a new one for me; I'll have to look them up*). Ack! Let It Go? ;D Cute movie, but I could only listen to the song once.

*Wow, I didn't know they were "letting" girls be in boy bands now. Cool. :)

I know! Those chocolate bunnies are awesome. :) *wonders if they're human size and if it's possible to OD on chocolate* Actually, you should get your husband a sexy chocolate basket. I've seen some cute adult baskets, but I think you either have to order them online or know of an erotic bakery nearby. Oh! Or edible chocolate undies! I wonder if they have those... Another "brilliant" Sara idea?

They even have Frozen baskets for your daughter on Amazon (like this one, but there's no chocolate! *gasp*). So fun! But wait, when is Easter? :D I think I'm getting waaay ahead of myself. *checks calendar* Yep, April 5 is Easter. Long time away.

LOL! Thanks for smacking my ILL crew around. :D That'll learn 'em. ;)

A bit more silliness at work: reading material when you're sitting on the shitter. I recommended they put one above the toilet for guys and those talented women who can pee standing up or use a pee funnel thingy. Fun stuff! ;) Yes, library staff are bizarre.

DVD #48

Safeword directed by Chris Soth
Tags: horror, california, bdsm, parties, rape, revenge, kidnapping, dvd, NR
Synopsis/Notes: Sabina is trapped with a masked madman with little hope of escape, finding herself in even greater dread the more she tries to get away. (A twisted, complex, and really unbelievable plot. I enjoyed it, but the acting and low budgetness {yes, that's a word :P -- eg, it's always a poor sign when you can see the shadow of the camera} were a turnoff at times. Still, it was more suspenseful towards the end; not to mention Daniel Allen Kent made a really hot sadist, bad guy or not.)

mar 15, 2015, 12:16pm

Wait, it's not a boy band if it has a girl in it, right? Then it's just a pop group? It's like saying "Yeah, me and the guys are going to start a rocker chick band." I'm pretty sure that just makes you a rock band. :P

mar 15, 2015, 2:29pm

I still consider it a boy band - since she is their sister and their mom probably said - you have o let her in LOL - 4/5's of the group are boys so ---> BOY BAND lol ...

mar 15, 2015, 6:37pm

>27 Ape: Are there such thing as girl bands? (Maybe only in Asia?) Or is it just individual singers who guys lust over? Women seem to lust over boy bands than vice versa. But you do have a good point. I wish they'd get rid of genderized words. Really f*ck with people's head and realize there's more to a person than what's between their legs.

>28 lovelyluck: 4/5's of the group are boys so ---> BOY BAND There's democracy for you. ;) And then, who knows if She's really a She. She could be a really pretty He. Like Hanson.

(^Not really Hanson.)

Oh, wow, that's quite the girl band list! Definitely 90's pop. :) I totally forgot about some of those girls. Looks like Wikipedia has a good list, too. Almost all of them I've never heard of.

>46 lovelyluck: My mom used to have this CD (she was cleaning out her CDs and offered it to me to keep or sell), so I'm guessing she halfway liked Patsy Cline too. Yeah, "Crazy"'s one of my favorite songs by her. I heard it as a remake first by Kidneythieves. I possibly heard LeAnn Rimes's version? Not sure on that one.

Penguins Hate Stuff by Greg Stones
Tags: fiction, fantasy, humor, graphic novel, animals, penguins, monsters, checked out from work
Synopsis/Notes: Penguins hate zombies. They also hate serpents, bad haircuts, sock monkeys, leprechauns, Halloween, oil rigs, vampire penguins, and mermaids. They really hate clowns, but they really like capes, balloons, and free vacations. This quirky collection reveals the discriminating tastes of these adorable flightless Antarctic birds who encounter odd foes (snow sharks, beavers, cowboys, samurai...), but still manage to enjoy the little things in life. With wit, humor, and the occasional alien invasion, Greg Stones's paintings capture the playfully absurd life of penguins. (Not laugh-out-loud at all, but some of the pics I almost scanned to share, but it wasn't worth it, imho. Not really recommended. But at least it's super short! Why, oh, why is it rated so high on Amazon?? I'm glad I ILL'd this one instead of relying on their reviews.)

Congratulations, By the Way: Some Thoughts on Kindness by George Saunders
Tags: nonfiction, essays, conduct of life, checked out from work
Synopsis/Notes: Drawing on his well-received convocation address at Syracuse University, one of today's most influential and original writers shows how to lead a kinder, more fulfilling life. (Yes, I'm a major padder, and that's the only reason why I read this book. It's super short, with maybe less than 30 pages with words on them; sometimes just a sentence. Some funny bits; nice advice, but I just don't believe it comes naturally for humans to be kind.)

49: I'm not terribly familiar with their music, but Du Hast is on a Guitar Hero game and it's pretty fun to play. :)

mar 19, 2015, 11:50pm

>52 saraslibrary: Well Canadians are all about the cultural mosaic...

mar 20, 2015, 5:57pm

>56 Ape: I'm not too familiar with Guitar Hero, so I think we're equal. (It's kind of like karaoke, right?) Yeah, singing foreign songs--especially ones like "Du Hast"--sounds like it would be fun. You can kind of make up the words as you go along. ;)

>57 MickyFine: Yeah, suuure. ;) We all know you're just luring zombies there as your mass weapon against the world. (And who knew there was such an interest for Canadian Zombie Fiction? Looks interesting.)

Book #92

Stuff on My Mutt by Mario Garza
Tags: nonfiction, humor, photography, animals, dogs, series, stuff on my mutt
Synopsis/Notes: Offers photographs of dogs with objects placed on them by their human friends, including such items as a pancake, hamster, beer can, and an action figure. (Read the title fast enough and it's "Stuff on My Butt." But anywho: this book isn't as funny as Stuff on My Cat, but there are a few LOL pics.)

mar 20, 2015, 8:19pm

58: Guitar Hero is a game where you have a guitar controller with colored buttons that looks like this:

And you "play songs" by holding the colored button and strumming the little bar at the bottom of the guitar. When you are playing the game, the screen looks like this:

So as the colored bubbles reach the bottom of the screen, you push the button and strum, and you earn points based on how well you do. :)

Oh, and on the topic of Rammstein, I'm not an expert on their precise sound, but some similar bands (if you are interested) are Stahlhammer and Nachtblut. The latter is darker/creepier/heavier, but I "own" the Dogma album and it shares a lot of similarities. :)

Edit: Oh, and, music video that I can't watch..

mar 21, 2015, 2:28pm

>60 Ape: Damn, that's over my head. But at least it teaches guys dexterity with their fingers for, um, other stuff. (Love the hairy guy. Does he headbang while you play? Like your own private fan club?)

>61 Ape: Sweet! :) Thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely have to see if we have them at work (which I doubt). But I'll check out the music video on my lunch break (in another hour and a half). Again, thanks! I always like music recs. :)

DVD #52

Bad Milo! directed by Jacob Vaughan
Tags: horror, humor, monsters, dvd, R
Synopsis/Notes: A horror comedy centered on a guy who learns that his unusual stomach problems are being caused by a demon living in his intestines. (Hilariously gross! If you can handle a monster--with teeth!--reeking havoc on Duncan's a-hole (he's constantly coming and going out the poop shoot when Duncan gets upset), then this movie is for you. :P I want my own Milo to cuddle. *pouts* Yep, I do see the similarities between him and E.T. (well, he didn't have the teeth) and the Ghoulies monster, but Milo's cuter, imho.)

Book #93

Texts from Dog by October Jones
Tags: fiction, humor, graphic novel, animals, dogs, series, texts from dog
Synopsis/Notes: In April 2012, English animator Joe Butcher discovered he could send text messages to HIMSELF on his mobile phone. Naturally, Butcher decided that the best use for this feature would be to send passive aggressive messages to his fictional alter ego October Jones, under the guise of Cooper, his British Bulldog. (Here's an excerpt, but I think there are a few texts from the second book, because I don't remember them. Anywho, funny stuff!)

mar 21, 2015, 4:24pm

62: I probably made it more complicated than necessary (as usual.) It's pretty intuitive, colors appear on the screen and you push the colored button that matches. Simple! When you are holding the guitar, the colors are in the same order as on the screen (green red yellow blue orange) so you get to the point where you just see the pattern on screen and don't think of the colors. Like in the screen shot, you don't think about the colors, you just see the simple blue-yellow-red-green and...wait, I'm making my "simple" explanation excessively complicated again, aren't I? :P

Stahlhammer has a music video too, but it's kind of weird. I'm not really sure how popular they are, but it shows them living the "good life," and I don't know if they are poppy in Germany or if it's tongue-in-cheek. *Shrug*

Redigeret: mar 21, 2015, 4:38pm

>65 Ape: LOL! No, actually, your section explanation was easier to understand. Thank you! :) Basically, monkey-see-monkey-do, right?

I'll have to YouTube Stahlhammer later, because my lunch hour is getting shorter by the second. :( And, no surprise, neither Stahlhammer nor Nachtblut are in our catalog. I think a lot of bands have to be tongue-in-cheek sometimes; because if they took themselves too seriously, they'd just fall apart.

I did find this cool little site-- I was googling bands like Rammstein. I agree with some of the suggestions, but most of them I've never heard.

Detention directed by Joseph Kahn
Tags: horror, sci fi, humor, time travel, dvd, R
Synopsis/Notes: As a copycat killer named after movie villain Cinderhella stalks the student body at Grizzly Lake High School, a group of co-eds band together to survive while serving detention. (Weirdest, spellbinding movie I've seen in a loooong time. I loved the whole 90's time travel stuff. And I noticed the killer is kind of obvious in the bottom right picture--he's left out.)

I will...eventually.)

Book #95

If You See a Kitten by John Butler
Tags: fiction, juvenile, picture book, animals, cats, pigs, mice, slugs, birds, snakes, porcupines, elephants, spiders, crocodiles
Synopsis/Notes: Illustrations and brief text present appropriate responses to a variety of animals, from pudgy pigs to slithery snakes. (I thought this was a cute book, great illustrations, but I didn't like the animal bias. Slugs, spiders, pigs, and snakes are supposed to get reactions like "Yuck," "Eeek," "Peee-ew," and "Yikes." I can understand the last page with "Help!" on it, because a giant crocodile is {supposedly?} going to eat the reader.)

Sybille Schenker’s evocative and exquisite illustrations bring a unique beauty and graphic excellence to this beloved favorite. (As with >23 saraslibrary:, this was another winning design. Shekhina by Leonard Nimoy
Tags: nonfiction, photography, poetry, jews, feminism, checked out from work
Synopsis/Notes: First-ever monograph by Leonard Nimoy revealing his intrigue with scriptural mythology and ancient spirituality. (I put an ILL hold on this because I had just "read" his previous b&w nude photography book--The Full Body Project--and thought Shekhina was going to be religiously scandalous, since a lot of the women are naked wearing Jewish men's religious garments. Sadly, I was disappointed. There was some nudity, yes, but it very tasteful. I just didn't "get" the book excerpts and poetry scattered between the photos, nor did I find the book all that shocking. Maybe because I'm not Jewish? Or maybe because I had built up its naughtiness in my head so much, it just didn't meet my expectations? Meh, it's ok, but skippable. Now I want to watch Yentyl again--lol!)

Sukiyaki. (This CD was almost a goner--another one to add to my sell-to-Half-Price-Books pile--but a few tracks saved it: "Sukijyaki" by 4 P.M., which I haven't heard in ages; "Sister Moon" by Vanessa Williams, who I don't think I've ever heard sing; and, of course, "Sour Times" by Portishead, which I already have on another CD. I'm not a big fan of live songs, even if they're by The Cranberries and Sheryl Crow, who I both halfway like. Summed up: avoid! :)

(I think I was high from sniffing new books again to buy this one. ;) Not really. To this day, most of these songs get stuck in my head for no reason--especially "Give a Little Whistle"--so I figured why not drive myself crazy-silly by buying this one? Quite possibly the shortest soundtrack I own, too: approximately 15 minutes long. Love it!)

ETA: Great, now my brain went to this song: "Coin-Operated Boy" by The Dresden Dolls. Sorry, Stephen, it's YouTube. :( I'll find an alternative for you. ETA: I'm not finding any safe sites. All of the free mp3 download sites look really shady. How do you usually like to listen to music, Stephen? Or rather, what site do you prefer? LastFM?

Work stuff. What a weird compliment I got today. I had a patron tell me he sees me all the time here and thinks I'm a hard worker (ha! I'm not, believe me), so he then gives me a God pamphlet. They're all the same, but I love the last note he wrote on it: "Kick the devil's butt." But I'm a pacifist. :P What'd Satan do to me anyway? Anywho, aren't I the one to be giving patrons books, not vice versa? And couldn't he have just tipped me or something? *wonders if library staff could work on commission* We sure would work harder.

Oh, and another one of my ILL requests was canceled without a word: Sock Monkeys Have Issues. I'm not torn up about it, but why no communication anymore? :(

>98 saraslibrary: That's too bad about the communication thing. I myself hust got a phone call form the woman in charge of interlibrary loans to remind to come pick up my IIL book. That was a first for me; although I has left it in the library for a few days since I was out of town. Hopefully the communication gets better for you.

mar 27, 2015, 4:43pm

>104 Kassilem: Thanks, Melissa! :)

That's actually nice they called to remind you to pick up your ILL book. Here, they give you one notification if a hold has come in for you. If you haven't picked it up in 7 days, then they just ship it back, whether it's ILL or not. No courtesy 1-day-left calls. (There are certain exceptions made, but it all depends on who you talk to, your circumstances, etc.)

My guess is there are several people working on ILLs. One librarian, in particular, is always good about contacting me via email explaining the lending library wants $X amount to loan it out, and do I want to pay that? *shrugs* It's all good. I'll keep requesting ILLs. I just find it so odd to have a hold canceled without any explanation.

>105 lovelyluck: Thank you, Jennifer! :) *snickers* Maybe I shouldn't snort/laugh at the little kid, because I think he could totally kick my ass.

And now that I've read 100 books, that means I don't have to read for the rest of the year. Yay! ;) *feels brain atrophying already*

DVD #55

Nurse directed by Douglas Aarniokoski
Tags: horror, hospitals, lesbians, dvd, R
Synopsis/Notes: By day, Abby Russell is a dedicated nurse, but by night, she lures cheating men to their brutal deaths and exposes them for who they really are. (Definitely more sex and nudity than blood and guts.)

DVD #56

Downloading Nancy directed by Johan Renck
Tags: drama, suspense, suicide, dvd, NR
Synopsis/Notes: An unhappy wife orders a guy she meets over the Internet to kill her, but the two of them fall in love. (Pretty gutsy ending. That's mainly why I gave it a 5. If it had been happily-ever-after, I probably would've given it a 4, maybe lower.)

mar 27, 2015, 8:25pm

Congrats! :D

mar 27, 2015, 10:51pm

Thanks! :) Now I have time to work on my other LT book challenges:

* Horror challenge (+ horror bingo card, which is maybe 1/3 done--eeps!)

* A - Z Book Title Challenge (I just have E, J, V, & X to complete; not bad.)

* 15 Categories (+ a list of books to read based on pages or topic, etc; pic "stolen" from Micky. I think "A book with antonyms in the title" is going to be my hardest one to finish. That and "A book that made you cry." And I definitely need to fill up my fiction, suspense/mystery, vampires, and historical categories.)

mar 28, 2015, 7:44am

Oh yeah, I forgot about my category challenge again. And I finished a book that fit it recently, too...

mar 28, 2015, 2:21pm

>111 Ape: The same one I pressured you into? :P Congrats on finding another book to fit in it. :) Which one was it?

Texts From Last Night: All the Texts No One Remembers Sending by Lauren Leto & Ben Bator
Tags: nonfiction, humor, sex, drug abuse
Synopsis/Notes: A collection of text messages originally posted on the website. (Even if you don't drink, do drugs, and/or are promiscuous, this book is hilarious. In fact, it might just keep you from doing those things.)

mar 28, 2015, 2:38pm

Nefertiti is going to be my "then" mystery novel because it takes place in ancient Egypt, and I am currently reading a mystery novel set on Mars to fill in the now/future category. :)

(I bought this mainly for Taylor Dayne's "I'll Always Love You" song, which doesn't make sense, since I already own most, if not all, of her CDs. The rest of the tracks...meh. Kind of before my time. Debating on whether or not to get rid of this one.)

mar 28, 2015, 2:43pm

>114 Ape: Oh, cool. :) Yep, Nefertiti would definitely fit in your mystery section. Have decided what to do with your other categories?

mar 28, 2015, 3:12pm

Nope, not at all, haha. I'm just kind of taking it one category at a time. After I finish my current book I'll figure out what to do next.

Synopsis/Notes: CRANKENSTEIN! He's BAAAAACK! See what happens to an ordinary kid on the most lovey-dovey, yuckiest day of the year-Valentine's Day! Cheesy cards, allergy-inducing bouquets, and heart-shaped everything? It's enough to turn anyone into a monster! YECHHHH! But Crankenstein might just find a way to turn his sour day sweet... because even the crankiest monsters have hearts!

Always buy your hard drugs and energy drinks from trusted sources, remember that!

Funny thing, energy drinks are notoriously popular among video gamers, but they are also common depicted as sources of evil in video games themselves. I'm playing a humorous puzzle game right now where you play as a tennis player who ruined his career after getting hooked on an energy drink called Explodz. :P

>127 Ape: Soooo....the police? *scratches head* You? :P

LMAO @ Explodz. Hey, it's a good message for youngsters. Energy drinks are definitely not good for kids (or pregnant chicks or people who're sensitive to caffeine--says so right on the can). I had no idea energy drinks were popular with the gamer crowd. I can only imagine what they do when they need to pee--do it in the empty can. Because you just know hardcore gamers remove the Pause button on the hand controls. :P

DVD #57

Daniel and Ana directed by Michel Franco
Tags: drama, foreign, incest, rape, kidnapping, marriage, mexico, dvd, NR
Synopsis/Notes: Daniel and Ana, brother and sister, best friends. Both are at pivotal, defining moments in their contented lives. Ana is about to be married, Daniel is a gregarious teenager discovering his personal and sexual identity. Yet their harmony is instantly shattered when they are kidnapped and something shocking happens which forces them to confront their desires and fears. Suddenly their old lives are a distant memory. Now, nothing they have known will ever be the same again. (The topic of underground forced porn isn't too shocking to me; I'm aware of it. But to watch the victims try and get on with their life was something I never really thought about. They seemed so "normal" to me, if numb and distant. And, apparently, it triggers something in Daniel to turn him into some weirdo rapist.Another good reason to never visit Mexico. You'll get abducted, forced to have sex with your relative(s), and then carry on like nothing happened. Kidding. I know I'm making fun of a serious topic. But as for the movie, it's very good; well done. Not sure if I believe the based on true events line--everyone uses that--but it could happen. Sad.)

Synopsis/Notes: While Embley and Yewbert are hitting one another with croquet mallets one day, an untenanted bicycle rolls into their garden. This book chronicles their adventures across turnip fields, through barns and into bushes. (What a weird-ass book. First line: "It was the day after Tuesday and the day before Wednesday." {Hello? Point?} But at least it was short.)

The Utter Zoo by Edward Gorey
Tags: fiction, fantasy, humor, picture book, animals, monsters, checked out from work
Synopsis/Notes: Twenty-six curious creatures--from the fastidious Ampoo to the world's one and only Zote--fill the pages of The Utter Zoo, an alphabet from the untamed imagination of Edward Gorey. The Boggerslosh, the Crunk, and the Dawbis; the Ippagoggy, the Jelbislup, and the Kwongdzu; the Scrug, the Twibbit, and the Ulp--each strange and wonderful zoomate displays its own primary characteristic, described in Gorey's inimitable, droll, rhyming couplets. (My kind of zoo! Very short book, too, which always a plus for me. A couple of my favorite creatures: the Yawfle and the Crunk.)

If You Give a Mouse an iPhone by Ann Droyd
Tags: fiction, juvenile, humor, picture book, animals, mice, carnivals, islands
Synopsis/Notes: If you give in to temptation and give a bored little mouse your iPhone, even for ten minutes, he’s probably going to beam to some faraway place beyond time, space, and the sound of your pleading voice. And if he’s that far gone, he won’t have any idea what’s going on around him, and he might end up missing out on all the real fun. From the New York Times-bestselling author of Goodnight iPad comes a delightful new commentary on the perils of our tech-obsessed lives and a fully charged romp for readers of all ages.

One Monster After Another by Mercer Mayer
Tags: fiction, juvenile, humor, picture book, fantasy, monsters, letters
Synopsis/Notes: Sally Ann's letter falls into the clutches of one monster after another before finally reaching Lucy Jane. (I was more interested in the monster chase than the letter-writing between the two girls. One of my favorite monsters in this book. The ending was too abrupt, so I reluctantly gave this one a 4. *sad face* I hate to do that, because I grew up on Mercer Mayer's monster books and loved them. Maybe that explains a thing or two about me now that I'm a weirdo adult. ;)

Tags: horror, foreign, mockumentary, belgium, rape, dvd, NR
Synopsis/Notes: A film crew follows a ruthless thief and heartless killer as he goes about his daily routine. But complications set in when the film crew lose their objectivity and begin lending a hand. (Mostly a snoozefest. Not funny, even though it's listed as a dark comedy. Yeah, sorry to disappoint you there, Micky! ;P

At work, one of my coworkers pulled this prank on our boss. Thankfully, she (our boss) has a sense of humor! But I don't think she was able to get into her office. Instead, this was on her schedule:
8-9 a.m. Discussion meeting about which pages to fire
9-10 a.m. Who to keep/who to fire meeting
10-11 a.m. Letting them go
11-12 a.m. Helping with resume

Personally, all of the last hour, I would've been donning a Kevlar vest and holing up in the duct system. ;P

Track Listing: 1 Ivo, 2 Lorelei, 3 Beatrix, 4 Persephone, 5 Pandora (For Cindy), 6 Amelia, 7 Aloysius, 8 Cicely, 9 Otterley, 10 Donimo. (Yes, I'm almost done with my Cocteau Twins collection. I at least wanted to give them a try, because I keep hearing them mentioned in alternative/goth circles, but I'm sorry, they're just not my thing. Maybe to fall asleep to, but I have no trouble there. Another one bites the dust.)

I tried to find anatomical heart-shaped tofu, but I could only find butt hearts. :(

apr 2, 2015, 8:52pm

>159 Ape: Yeah, tofu's not that versatile to make into anatomical hearts, but thank you for the butt hearts! :) Those look delicious! *munches on her butt hearts*

Nothing says Easter like tofu butt hearts!

apr 2, 2015, 9:39pm

Exactly. They're almost Brazilian butt hearts. Nice and big. :P *tries to remember the point of Easter* Chickens raping rabbits and giving birth to chocolate eggs, right?

apr 3, 2015, 8:06pm, no, I don't think that's it.

Tags: humor, college, parties, dvd, R
Synopsis/Notes: After they are forced to live next to a fraternity house, a couple with a newborn baby do whatever they can to take them down. (Loved it! I can't think of a Seth Rogen movie I've seen that I didn't like. Some of the best quotes ever, too.)

Should You Be Laughing at This? by Hugleikur Dagsson
Tags: fiction, humor, graphic novel
Synopsis/Notes: Hugleikur Gagsson's Should You Be Laughing at This? has achieved revered cult status and taken the Icelandic publishing world by storm. Of course, Iceland is a country whose national drink is called "Black Death," national dish is putrefied shark meat, and national literacy rate is 99.9%. That may give you a small idea of the dark but brilliant mind behind the shamefully addicting cartoons in this book. From the absurd to the offensive to the immoral, Dagsson includes every taboo out there. And when you find yourself snickering and cackling, you'll stop and ask yourself, "Should You Be Laughing at This?"

We Are What We Are = Somos lo que hay directed by Jorge Michel Grau
Tags: horror, foreign, mexico, dvd, NR
Synopsis/Notes: When the patriarch of the family passes away, the teenage children must take responsibility for the family chores: the preparation of the rituals, the hunting and putting the all-important meat on the table. These newfound responsibilities are even more daunting, however, when you live in the city and happen to be a family of cannibals. (I liked this the same as the remake {I watched that one maybe a couple weeks ago?}. The daughter gave me the freakin' creeps, so I loved the ending shot, with her living and continuing the family tradition.)

Tags: horror, foreign, revenge, korea, dvd, NR
Synopsis/Notes: When his pregnant fiancee becomes the latest victim of a serial killer, a secret agent blurs the line between good and evil in his pursuit of revenge. (Long {140+ minutes}, but good revenge story. Another movie I've been putting on hold and forgetting for months/years, until I just went out and bought it. Worth it alone for Byung-hun Lee {the guy on the left, in one of the sickest well-thought-out revenge scenes of the movie}!)

Spotty by Margret Rey
Tags: fiction, juvenile, picture book, animals, rabbits, prejudices
Synopsis/Notes: Having been excluded from a party because his spots make him different, Spotty the bunny runs away from home. (Kind of a sad, f-ed up book if you think about it--a mother making one of her children stay home from a birthday party, because she's afraid of her father's disapproval regarding her spotted child {all the others are white}. Even though Spotty was written in the 40's, it still has relevance today and probably forever.)

I Would Have Bought You A Cat, But... by Darby Conley
Tags: fiction, humor, series, get fuzzy, comics, animals, cats, dogs
Synopsis/Notes: Now, in a size and format that's perfect for die-hard fans and those looking for the perfect gift, I Would Have Bought You a Cat, But . . . will become the must-have little treasure for everyone who craves a bit more of the trademark Get Fuzzy foolishness, or just enjoys a good chuckle. (I love Get Fuzzy, but this book is either a) too short or b) the Bucky strips they had weren't the funniest. I haven't made my mind up why I didn't love this book as much as I thought I would, so I'll settle with c) all the above. Skippable, unless you're a big Get Fuzzy fan and find it for super cheap (I am/did both).)

(1985-1995 are probably my favorite years of Heart songs, so this was a definite hit with me! I would've loved to have added some of their older songs--"Barracuda," "Almost Paradise," "Crazy On You," "Magic Man," etc--but again, this is just their '85-'95 run of hits {some I don't even recall}. I'm sure there are other, better Heart greatest hits CDs out there with those hits on them. For now, this CD hits the spot. :)

DVD #62

Máncora directed by Ricardo de Montreuil
Tags: drama, foreign, lima, peru, madrid, spain, suicide, incest, drug abuse, beach, ocean, surfing, dvd, R
Synopsis/Notes: An adventure drama that tells the story of Santiago, a 22-year old from Lima. Following his father's suicide, haunted by his inner daemons and hatred for the world in general, Santiago decides to escape the crude Lima winter to take refuge in Mancora, a beach to the north of Peru where it is always summer. Upon his departure, Santiago receives the unexpected visit from his stepsister, Ximena, a young and beautiful photographer in her late twenties, accompanied by her husband Inigo, a young surgeon from Spain. The three take off on a journey escaping reality and in search of themselves. Santiago and Ximena find refuge in each other, which sparks off jealousies within Inigo, and a trip that was intended to be a simple escape turns out to be much more, when each of the three crosses limits and borders they should never have crossed. The three are placed face to face with their dreams and daemons. "Mancora" is a story of redemption, where a kid becomes a man and learns to forgive the world. (Out of the two movies I've seen directed by Richardo de Montreuil--this one and La mujer de mi hermano (both dealing with kind-of-but-not-blood-relation incestuous infidelity)--I liked this one the best. I wasn't too crazy about the ending, but overall, this was a decent enough drama. There's some major eye candy throughout the film, guys and girls; so who can blame Santiago for having sex with his stepsister when she looks like that (and vice versa)?)

I love Librarian Grumpy Cat too. It would most definitely kick Dewey the library cat's ass any day. Not that I'm ok with animals fighting. Just saying, I love Library Grumpy Cat. :)

Absolutely funny! And, yeah, definite Zac Efron eye candy throughout the movie. Hmm, I wonder if he should be Mr. Sexy Sunday...but Sara style... >:)

Yay! Another Heart fan! :) Ooh, the acoustics must've been awesome prenatal. :P And that's cool both of you could enjoy another one of their concerts, where this time you actually get to see them. "Stranded" is one of my faves, too. And another ditto: their older songs are the best. I've listened to some of their newer CDs and wasn't blown away. *shrugs*

Bad Kitty: Volume 1: Catnipped by Michele Jaffe
Tags: fiction, juvenile, suspense, romance, humor, manga, series, bad kitty, based on book, friendship
Synopsis/Notes: This "American manga" by the author of Bad Kitty and Kitty Kitty continues the story of amateur investigator Jas Callihan as yet another mystery falls into her lap. This time she stumbles across a jewelry store robbery at the mall while avoiding her dad and trying to schedule a date with her boyfriend, Jack. Soon her friends join the chase for the missing diamonds while the date with Jack gets pushed to the back burner yet again. The artwork is lively and fun especially in the conversational asides. Catnipped will be especially appreciated by fans of Jaffe's novels, but it is not necessary to have read them to enjoy this rollicking, fast-paced, and funny mystery. (I haven't read any of the Bad Kitty books this manga is based on, but from what I've read in other reviews, it's not necessary to read those first. This is just a spin-off, I guess, of the novels. Not too bad, but I was surprised how long it took me to finish it. The mystery didn't really suck me in, nor did any of the characters interest me {most seeped vapid}, though some of the banter is pretty funny.)

>209 MickyFine: No worries. No pervy Sara pics. But I'll make an assumption that tight constricting clothes (even shoes) make people less relaxed, so my theory kind of makes sense. More naked = more relaxed (depending on if nudity is your thing and who's around) = the ability to enjoy what you're doing...even cooking! So I totally see how nude beaches can be relaxing (*ahem* for the nudists themselves, sometimes not for visitors 0.0). Aaand maybe if someone puts a bug in Jensen's ears, he'll start ACTING in the nude! *squeals* Hmm, but isn't that just soft-to-hard porn? *shrugs* Does it matter? It's Jensen. ;)

ETA: Btw, Micky...

*wonders if she should mention this at work or if it'll open a can of worms among our patrons*

No worries, Stephen. Never Nudes can wear their appropriate attire. :)

ETAA: For those who can't get enough naked guys reading, here's a site I found. (Yes, there are some peni. And it's so funny my work site didn't block this site. Suckers! :P)

ETAAA: Oh, and for Stephen, since he probably doesn't enjoy Jensen as much as we ladies do (and probably some gay lurkers), here's a topless woman with glasses reading:

I can't begin to tell you how hard it was to find a naked-looking woman reading without her either being penetrated or flashing everything (an LT no-no).

Random blah-blah-blah:

Our director just realized her oopsie e-mail she sent out to everyone, saying next week was NLWD. I wonder if she has a magic wand to get meals to all dozen+ branches like she promised. :D We'll see. Anywho, I say go hug a librarian today. (I can say that because I'm not a librarian and would probably mace anyone who tried to touch me.)

apr 14, 2015, 4:50pm

Yeah, ummmm, I am definitely not more relaxed when naked...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the official definition of Google images: women being penetrated. :P

apr 14, 2015, 7:14pm

>212 Ape: No worries. I think we're in the majority of people who prefer reading with our clothes on. ;) Thank god my theory hasn't reached the mass public or else we'd be having nasty patrons taking their clothes off to read "People" magazine and "Cosmo." Or worse, reading to their children in the nude. 0.o

Dead in 3 Days = In 3 Tagen bist du tot directed by Andreas Prochaska
Tags: horror, foreign, austria, series, dead in 3 days, dvd, R
Synopsis/Notes: In Ebensse, the teenagers Nina, her boyfriend Martin, Clemens, his girlfriend Alex and Mona are best friends since their childhood. On their high-school graduation day, they all receive the same message in the cellular: "In three days you will be dead!", but they believe is a stupid joke from their weird schoolmate Patrick. However, when Martin is found dead in the lake Traunsee, the group realizes that it is not a prank. When Nina is attacked and Patrick is killed trying to save her, they recall a tragic incident from their childhood. (This one took me several days to get through. It really didn't hold my attention, especially when it started to feel like a Austrian version of I Know What You Did Last Summer, so I kind of lost a little interest. It definitely deserves another viewing, just not right now. Also, I don't know why Julia Rosa Stöckl is on the front {not that I'm really complaining} when Sabrina Reiter is kind of the lead female star. *shrugs* I'm in no rush to watch the sequel. Well, unless it's super, super cheap.)

There are no clips from the movie. Stick with the AP soundtrack instead. But on its own as a dark ambient CD, this is pretty good.)

Goodnight Darth Vader by Jeffrey Brown
Tags: fiction, humor, graphic novel, poetry, sci fi, movie tie-in, series, star wars, darth dad, aliens, robots, checked out from work
Synopsis/Notes: It's bedtime in the Star Wars galaxy, and Darth Vader's parenting skills are tested anew in this delightful follow-up to the breakout New York Times bestsellers Darth Vader™ and Son and Vader's™ Little Princess. In this Episode, the Sith Lord must soothe his rambunctious twins, Luke and Leia—who are not ready to sleep and who insist on a story. As Vader reads, the book looks in on favorite creatures, droids, and characters, such as Yoda, R2-D2, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Maul, Admiral Ackbar, Boba Fett, and many others as they tuck in, yawn, and settle down to dream. As ever, Jeffrey Brown's charming illustrations and humor glow throughout, playing on children's book conventions to enchant adults and kids alike.

>220 saraslibrary: Those are adorable.

apr 15, 2015, 4:02pm

>221 MickyFine: I love them, too. :) It's shelved in the adult graphic novel section at my worksite, but I think it's appropriate enough to read to kids (especially if they're Star Wars fans). Better than Goodnight Moon, Goodnight Bush, and all those other parodies.

DVD #64

Would You Rather directed by David Guy Levy
Tags: horror, games, suicide, dvd, NR
Synopsis/Notes: Desperate to help her ailing brother, a young woman unknowingly agrees to compete in a deadly game of "Would You Rather," hosted by a sadistic aristocrat. (Not too gory of "would you rather...?" choices, but still some blood and deaths, obviously. The last scene might come as a shock to some. Strangely, I had an "Oh, no" feeling the first time she checks on her brother sleeping. Actually, that fearful feeling started when her brother was ok with her leaving for a party, because he wanted some quiet. Something just didn't sound right for me.Lesson learned: don't be greedy. Oorrr...sell your soul before playing and only do it for yourself. Oh, and load up on pain meds prior. ;) Anyway, recommended! Quick, suspenseful movie.

apr 15, 2015, 6:03pm

>222 saraslibrary: Well, I've ordered The Very Hungover Caterpillar and Where the Wild Mums Are for work. Weirdly, no touchstones in LT.

apr 15, 2015, 6:33pm

>224 MickyFine: LOL! Those sound awesome. Good work ordering them. :) You know I'll have to request those as well, right? Hmm, strange the touchstones don't work. *tries it* They don't even show up on a search site; they're probably super new. *guessing* Off to my work catalog to ILL those. Thanks so much for mentioning them! :) I always love parodies. Speaking of which, I checked out a DVD called My Fair Zombie. Yes, the rain in Spain stays mainly in the...braaaiiiins! :P

Sooooo much 80's music....

apr 15, 2015, 7:09pm

>226 Ape: The better to educate you youngin's. :P The 80's rocked! And three CDs isn't "sooooo much." Just wait...

apr 15, 2015, 7:18pm

1 cd is too many!

I don't completely hate all 80's music, but 80's pop makes me want to crush my head with a rock to make the horror stop.

I like Megadeth and Slayer though. :P

apr 15, 2015, 7:27pm

>228 Ape: Fine! I'll go back to buying cassettes and records. :P

Did that help any? Wanna play with my Rainbow Brite now and sing Expose songs?

And that's why headphones were made! ;) I *think* I've heard a Slayer song or two, but I don't listen to our heavy metal radio station very often. Sorry. I can't say I hate or like either band. *shrugs* I'll give them a try, though. I'm pretty open-minded about most music.

apr 15, 2015, 7:31pm

Both bands are pretty tame by today's standards. In high school I was listening to death metal, and I always heard non-death-metal listeners talking about how crazy and extreme Slayer was. I must say, I was pretty let down the first time I heard them, haha.

I wouldn't recommend any of the modern stuff by either band, they've been putting out turds since the late 90's. :P

apr 15, 2015, 7:45pm

>230 Ape: *snort* Turds. Nice. ;) We only have 4 Slayer CDs, so I put those on hold. Unfortunately, all of them are the newer albums. :/ Reign in Blood is the only 80's CD we have. We have 5 Megadeth CDs, but I could only put 4 of them on hold. I reached my 50 hold limit. :( And again, all of their CDs are 2000+. I'm totally blaming you if they suck. :P

apr 15, 2015, 8:01pm

Reign in Blood is Slayer's is often considered one of the best thrash albums of all time, along with Megadeth's Rust in Peace. Rust in Peace is amazing, but if you have Countdown to Extinction, it has way better production and is still quite amazing, in my opinion.

Regardless of which CDs you get, they'll be a million times better than this 80's nonsense you've been listening to. :P

No need to thank me. Your screams and self-head-crushing are enough. ;)

>234 Ape: 80's nonsense??

Btw, I did get Rust in Peace, but unfortunately it was the live version. :( I hate live CDs. So. Much. But we'll see.... And, no, we didn't have Countdown to Extinction.

Synopsis/Notes: Russell the sheep tries to help Santa fix his broken sleigh. (Beautiful illustrations.)

apr 16, 2015, 6:53pm

Yeah, I like to hear live versions of songs, but I prefer them to be tacked on to the end of a CD, I don't like entire live CDs very much.

apr 17, 2015, 1:38pm

>239 Ape: You do like live versions of songs? I'll forgive you. ;) As I'm sure you forgive me for loving 80's music. And children's books. And erotica. And books with people on them. Um, there's gotta be more wrong with you then. We've gotta even this out. :P So far I'm in the bad.

I think the only exceptions for me are live electronica CDs (computers don't make mistakes or become distorted due to overconsumption of drugs/alcohol). And I'm a big Ministry fan, so I love their two live albums: SphincTour and In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up.

apr 17, 2015, 6:59pm

I like live versions of songs for the sake of curiosity, which is why I say I like them tagged on at the end of CDs. I don't like them more than the studio versions, and I only like them if I'm already familiar with the song, just for curiosity's sake. I feel the same way about demo versions of songs. :)

Things wrong with me? Hmmmmmm...nope, can't think of anything. :P

I saw the video for Die Antwoord's "Ugly Boy" recently and it's amazing.

apr 17, 2015, 10:57pm

>242 Ape: I kind of agree. Sometimes it's fun to listen to a familiar song live, especially if there's funny banter between the band and fans. I can't say I've listened to too many demo version of songs, so I'll be Switzerland on that one. But since I'm already griping, one more thing I can't stand are acoustic versions of fast/loud/hard songs. "Just kill me now" is all I can think. However, I do love covers of songs, especially if they're totally opposite of the original. Like Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" covered by some goth/industrial band {brain fart} that makes it sound s/m dirty.

Phbbt. Suure, you're just perfect. Oh, wait. You've got a Y chromosome. Negative infinity points for you. :P

I haven't seen too many of Die Antwoord's videos, except that one you mentioned awhile back ("I Fink U Freeky," I think). Maybe when I'm at work tomorrow, I'll YouTube some of their videos. Thanks! :)

apr 17, 2015, 11:38pm

I like live versions of songs as well, but the studio versions are always my favorites.

Happy weekend Sara!

apr 18, 2015, 2:48pm

>244 The_Hibernator: Same here! :) You can't beat what production crews can do. I mean, look at Milli Vanilli (and tons of other awful singers/musicians). ;) Awesome works, guys!

Back atcha! :)

(Yes, apparently, Freddy Krueger did get laid in his lifetime. However, it was with a hairless wombat. Cheap child support is all I say.)

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane directed by Jonathan Levine
Tags: horror, parties, texas, dvd, R
Synopsis/Notes: A group of high-schoolers invite Mandy Lane, a good girl who became quite hot over the summer, to a weekend party on a secluded ranch. While the festivities rage on, the number of revelers begins to drop quite mysteriously. (Slow {even though it's 90 minutes} and kind of disappointing. I expected more out of the identity of the killer, because I guessed--ok, I was only 75% sure--the i.d. ahead of time, but didn't know all the particulars.)

If You Plant a Seed by Kadir Nelson
Tags: fiction, juvenile, picture book, animals, rabbits, mice, birds, crows, pigeons, ducks, raccoons, roosters, chipmunks, squirrels, gardens, checked out from work
Synopsis/Notes: Kadir Nelson, acclaimed author of Baby Bear and winner of the Caldecott Honor and the Coretta Scott King Author and Illustrator Awards, presents a resonant, gently humorous story about the power of even the smallest acts and the rewards of compassion and generosity. With spare text and breathtaking oil paintings, If You Plant a Seed demonstrates not only the process of planting and growing for young children but also how a seed of kindness can bear sweet fruit. (Nice drawings, but I particularly liked the picture of the birds dumping--pun intended--seeds onto the ground. I guess it's one of those nice little lies parents tell their kids about how plants getting planted without the help of humans. So, yeah, not only is there no Santa, Easter bunny, or tooth fairy {except in Red Dragon by Thomas Harris *shudders*}, etc, but birds poop out seeds they've ingested to hopefully create new plants, etc. Isn't nature disgusting? I think so too. ;)

>If I had been drinking I'm sure my screen would have been covered.... Freddy Kruger and a hairless wombat LOL

apr 26, 2015, 3:56pm

>252 lovelyluck: No worries! It's always great to see you online. :)

(I really loved this pic, too. Goofball!)

LOL re: but I can't promise I will get a lot of reading done if my husband is around. That's that audiobooks are for. ;)

Yeah, Spellbound was ok, but I can think of three CDs I liked better by her: Greatest Hits (greatest hits CDs are always a win-win :), Shut Up and Dance: The Dance Mixes, and, of course, Forever Your Girl (my first Paula Abdul CD).

I think Stephen is just jealous he wasn't born earlier to be able to enjoy it. ;) Different tastes in music. No worries. I'll start ranking on his music if/when he starts posting some, so we'll be easy. ;) However, he recommended I catch up on Slayer CDs, and I'm actually liking it. *shrugs* I think music, period, whether it's 80's new wave or thrash metal. It's good to be open-minded sometimes. Fun stuff! Gets some of the anger out.

Yes, LTing and drinking are never a good combination. ;) But I'm glad I could make you laugh. :) I think it's kinda cute, in a super hygienic way. And if I had one, you know I'd be unoriginal and call it Freddy, girl or boy. :)
Denne tråd er fortsat i saraslibrary's 100: Part 4.
