Oh, umm...I see you left a message under my old name zenith...that account was actually an accidental creation after I changed my username here...I'll go delete it. :D

As for convincing you, I don't really think that's my job. If you can't see what you're missing out on then you'll never see the value anyway. :P But for me it's not so much group (as in forum posting) features, it's all the other little things. How exactly would you do the Zeitgeist on Anobii for example? They also do a lot more with RSS, and their groups are miles better in the fact that they pretty much all use English. :D I like this place tons better, but makes no odds to me if everyone moves or not, I'll just continue to use both places, but respect LibraryThing more. ;)

I don't so much mean the main librarything area, just the groups. I'm not seeing what group features it has that makes it closer to forum posting. I like the main setup, just don't have any money in paypal currently LOL and no access to the bank account online because I've lost the bloody password to move some money across to the account I keep for paypal usage so I'll continue to bitch about how many books I can list until I get the password back through the post :D

Do the groups allow any bbcode or html to make things a little nicer to view - bold, italic, underline - you know the kinda thing :D The zeitgeist you couldn't do with anobii, but I meant more that you could probably build something external to do something similar. I do like the idea of being able to link it to a website though. But I think the argument about the groups all being in English doesn't really hold any relevance as none of them interest me enough to join ROFLMAO!!!

I sent the message to zenith because you'd sent me a friend invite on that name so I figured it must be the one you're using :p

Yeah, you can use basic html like bold, italic and a href etc. :)

One group feature I really love here is that there are links for
all latest topics from across all groups
and even better
latest posts from all your groups
and just for fun
all discussions about your books.

You can also 'star' topics and referr back to your starred list later, in the same way that you can star messages in gmail. So...they're just a few of the features that I think make life easier and make LibraryThing way superior to anything else out there. :)

Bah, my ISP swallowed my last message.

Yeah you can use basic html, b, i, a href etc, it works fine :)

One of the groups features I love is that on any group page, on the left is a menu. Clicking on 'all topics' will show you the latest topics from across all groups, then under 'Your World' clicking on 'Your groups' will show all the latest posts from your groups. Just for fun, you can click on 'Your books' which will take you to all discussions about the books in your library.

Those features alone make LibraryThing a far better place for discussion than Anobii, in both the convenience and fun depts.

Oh, and there's a neat feature that allows you to link to a book by using square brackets, like Dracula and to authors by using double square brackets, like Bram Stoker

Not only does this give a link in the post itself, but also displays all books and authors linked to in the thread at the top right.

Well I thought it was neat anyway...imagine how handy that is for groups like the 50 book challenge. :)

The features you've listed :) Basic html is a help to emphasis parts of conversations and so on.... andI like the linkage thing for books/authors.

Ah, ok. :)

Did you see how I prettified that first post, then got lazy when I thought it had been swallowed? lol

Anyways, am off out over to my mom's to see my sister, haven't seen her for a year and she's only here until Sunday, so have to make the most of it. Back later! :)

hey, I'm joining the group, if you don't mind too terribly much. And if you do... who cares? JK. So who are you guys??

We don't mind :)

We're just a group of people who enjoy chatting about whatever comes to mind without having to worry about upsetting those we're talking to by having to creep around a subject. We're all pretty straightforward and open about what we think and are members of random groups throughout various sites :)

That's us as a collective... me personally - well I'm known as Azh on the net and have been for about 15 years now... my name is Lisa and I'm usually called that, Azh or Lee by the people who know me. I'm 34 with six kids (3 stepsons, 3 daughters) and 7 months pregnant so irritable ;) I live in Derbyshire in England, like rock music, writing, web design and reading a whole range of things :D I think that's it.. it's early and I'm not awake yet!

Well, nice to meet you Azh. 6 kids with another on the way, holy cow. I want to have lots of kids. When I get older that is. I'm only 17. England, huh? That's pretty sweet. I've always wanted to go to England. I live in Georgia, USA. Right now we've been seeing 105 degree temperatures. What's it like in England?
