My family and I just saw 12 Years A Slave in a Los Angeles movie theater. We were the only apparently white folks in that theater...that's just wrong. If there was ever a movie that each white American should see, this is it. It explores the Civil War era roots of white privilege in the United States of America. Former US Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy spoke out about the causes of white privilege before the term "white privilege" came into use:
