My family and I just saw 12 Years A Slave in a Los Angeles movie theater. We were the only apparently white folks in that theater...that's just wrong. If there was ever a movie that each white American should see, this is it. It explores the Civil War era roots of white privilege in the United States of America. Here's the official link for that movie: http://www.12yearsaslave.com/

News reports: US Attorney General Eric Holder's scathing press conference remarks on March 4, 2015, leave little doubt that white privilege enabled the chronic civil rights violations and racial profiling documented by the US Justice Department in Ferguson, Missouri:

Former US Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy spoke out about the causes of white privilege before the term "white privilege" came into use:

"When you teach a man to hate and fear his brother, when you teach that he is a lesser man because of his color or his beliefs or the policies he pursues, when you teach that those who differ from you threaten your freedom or your job or your family, then you also learn to confront others not as fellow citizens but as enemies.

"We must admit the vanity of our false distinctions among men and learn to find our own advancement in the search for the advancement of all. We must admit in ourselves that our own children's future cannot be built on the misfortunes of others. We must recognize that this short life can neither be ennobled nor enriched by hatred or revenge."

The Gospel according to RFK: why it matters now I *think* is the edition of his speeches that contains this quotation, from his 1968 Presidential campaign of 81 days. The Facebook source of this quotation gives no reference.

Created in September 2016, the Thomson Reuters Diversity & Inclusiveness (D&I) Index analyzes the employment practices of over 5,000 companies. It keeps finding that the 100 standout businesses from this group are ethnically diverse companies that create more innovative products, happier customers, and better financial results:

Laura Mather, trained in cybersecurity at the NSA, joined eBay's anti-fraud team in 2003, moved to Google in 2006, then went independent, founded Silver Tail Systems (software that detects online fraud), sold that for $250 million dollars in 2012, and then founded Unitive, renamed in May 2017 to Talent Sonar. Talent Sonar helps companies eliminate ethnic hiring bias by focusing on candidate skills and values:

"Tim Ryan, CEO of US accounting firm PwC, spoke in February 2017 about one of his core management diversity beliefs: 'My job is to get 100% out of everybody, and everybody's 100% is different.' He gleaned that wisdom in a dressing-down he received as a teen working at a grocery store. Ryan and a buddy were caught mocking a special-needs co-worker who wasn't as fast as they were at wrangling lettuce. His manager told them, 'He's giving me his 100%. Are you giving me yours?' Says Ryan, 'I never forgot that.' He never forgot any of it." Excerpted from:
