This is my first time doing the ROOT program. I'm not sure about points and specific goal numbers but I base it on my "To Reads" on Goodreads. Some books I plan on reading are re-reads to refresh myself heading into a sequel. I want to be able to read books I have at home to eventually decrease my collection. For a long time I put off recreational reading and am working on getting back into it. My goal is to read a book every two weeks, so I figure how many pages in the book and divide by 14 to determine how many pages per day. Sometimes I make it, sometimes I don't.

Good luck, I'm a 1st timer as well. I'm not sure about points either, but will assume if I miss something obvious then somebody kind will point it out :) Happy reading!

Points is optional. You might want to check out my thread and see how I plan to do it.

Welcome aboard and good luck!

Thanks, everyone. I don't know how to make a ticker but my goal (for now) is 26 new books not counting re-reads. My first book is "Murder in the First-Class Carriage: The First Victorian Railway Killing" by Kate Colquhoun.

It seems that tickerfactory has some virus associated with it. I've tried two different computers and it set off my anti-virus.

Hi west. Good luck with your challenge.

It's not really a virus...it just installs a cookie....which allows it to move...some virus programs consider all cookies are viruses...but tickerfactory is safe.
Good luck on your reading program....I work more than fulltime and my goal is was also a book every two weeks. I usually made it...but would not read for 2-3 days during the week, but then would make up for it on the weekend.

Almost done with book #2. I hope to finish it tonight. Progress is not as quick as I'd like.

Sometimes it works that way, Westham. Real live gets in the way or the book has lots of pages. You will get there!

As long as you're enjoying what you're reading, that's the main thing :)

Thanks, everyone! Finished last night ("Murder in the First-Class Carriage: The First Victorian Railway Killing") and started the next one ("Tacked to Death").
Books read: 2/26

I have The Napoleon of Crime on my TBR pile! I've read (bits of) one of the author's WWII nonfiction books (Operation Mincemeat) and really enjoyed it, so am very much looking forward to seeing how you like this one!
24rabbitprincess
I too will be looking forward to your thoughts on The Napoleon of Crime! I loved Macintyre's WW2 books and want to read more by him.

"The Napoleon of Crime" is back on the "to-be-read" pile. I just finished a different book "Silas Jayne: Chicago's Suburban Gangster." Books read 4/26.
I have a Dilbert book that I inherited, "Still Pumped from Using the Mouse" that should be a quick read (and probably doesn't really count but then I can get rid of it) and I've bumped up "Desert Flower: The Extraordinary Journey of a Desert Nomad" by Waris Dirie.

Whether it counts or not, Dilbert is always a fun read. :) How's the Desert Flower going?
27westham89
Finished the Dilbert "Still Pumped from Using the Mouse" and will be on to "Desert Flower" next. Books read 5/26.
28westham89
Finished "Desert Flower." Very interesting read. Definitely makes one aware of what we have available on a daily basis and may take for granted. Books read 6/26.
29westham89
Finished a re-read of John Grisham's "A Time to Kill" and read the sequel "Sycamore Row." Now I'm on his book "The Racketeer." Books read 8/26.
32westham89
It was a very interesting read about a young Bedouin Somali girl who ran away from home to get out of an arranged marriage. Certainly made me more appreciative for things I take for granted in my life.
33westham89
Just finished "The Racketeer" by John Grisham. It was kind of "meh." I didn't think it was one of his better ones. Now to take a reading hiatus to work on cleaning the house. :( Books read 9/26.
34westham89
Just finished "No Hurdle Too High: The Story of Show Jumper Margie Goldstein Engle" by Mona Pastroff Goldstein. If you follow the show jumping world and know Margie, it's an interesting read. Books read 10/26
36westham89
I finished "National to National: A Year on the Show Jumping Circuit" and have started my next book. Books read 11/26.
38westham89
I finished "Spycatcher" by Matthew Dunn. Books read 12/26. I can't believe it's the middle of October. I don't think I'm going to meet my goal.
40westham89
Finished a re-read of "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown. Books read 13/26. Half way to my goal. I'll keep plugging.
