I have been furiously searching the internet (and my brain) to remember a book from my childhood. I am hoping that someone on here will be of help! Unfortunately, I can't remember the title. Or the author. But I can describe what I remember of it, as best I can. (Thanks, in advance for even reading this far!)

I believe it was an award winning book. I can remember their being a medal on the cover. I have searched both the newbery and the caldecott lists and don't think I saw it, but I could be wrong.

I remember it from around 1990-1993, but I think that at that point I was a far more advanced reader than the book called for (I was born in 1981). Based on the graphics I wouldn't think that it was published too much before 1980, but can't be positive.

There were pictures on most, if not all pages. They were mostly in black with some blue and (Maybe) some yellow. They were very simple drawings, not quite stick figures but not much more detailed. I can remember specifically a little boy and his friend, a girl. I think I remember an elephant on one page.

The words were in both simple paragraph form, but (I think) some text was also wrapped around the graphics. The prose was a little sing-songy "I am me. And you are You. together we are friends" (not actual words, but more of an example of what the words were like.) I think that there were some puns, as well.

I don't know for sure that i am remembering it correctly. But I am a mom now and remember loving that book. I was tranced by the words and artistry. I want my daughter to love it too.

Any help you can give me would be so greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I suspect that the book you are looking for is I'll Be You and You Be Me, written by Ruth Krauss and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. The illustrations are simple but more sophisticated than stick figures, the color palette is limited, the main characters (if you can call them that, there really isn't a plot, as you said) and there is an elephant. There is a blue ribbon on the cover, which might fit your description of a medal. Hope this helps:)

Hello, I'm trying to remember the title of a book about two sisters. It is illustrated with the sister's bodies as the numbers 6 and 9. It's about the ups and downs that come with the sisters' age difference.

Thank you in advance for any help.
