My TBR books are almost down to the one bookcase. It's a small one, really! Of course, you can't count the ones downstairs that aren't officially on the TBR list. Or the pretty, shiny, oh-so-book-shaped presents sitting under the tree. So... yeah. I made some progress last year, but I'm still working off the absurd number of books I bought in 2011.
I'll go for 60 pre-2012 books, both print and audio.

Ooh, I like the idea of having a ticker for new acquisitions as well as for TBR books. I think that those numbers might depress me, though. :)

Christina, I like that idea too, but i'm just as much afraid to get depressed by the amount of books.

I've counted the books that come in the last few years and I was really proud of myself that until this week I had only purchased 25 books. But then I got those gift cards from Santa - that's not really buying books is it, since I didn't spend any of my own money?
But then they are still new books sitting waiting to be read, darn, I'm still plus 72 for 2012 even though I had 95 BOMBS. Crap, I've got to stop getting new books or I'll never catch up! Wait, is that a bad thing? That's a bad thing, I don't want to run out of books!

Oh, yes, totally different than buying them yourself. Definitely. And I am definitely not saying that because I got two book-related gift cards for Christmas. And, yes, running out of books is a terrifying thought. Can't let that happen, oh no.

Hmmm...I might add a books bought ticker. Maybe seeing the cold, hard numbers will slow down the book buying (probably not, though). And I am totally not counting books given to me or acquired through gift certificates ;)
