With 253 posts, it seemed like it was time for a new thread.

I've posted my review of Curse of the Pogo Stick, the fifth Dr. Siri mystery set in 1970s Laos, in my thread...post #45.

I love the sense of place Cotterill brings to these stories. I feel the local air, and smell the smells. It's hard to do, and he does it very well.

I have been in Glasgow, Scotland in 1492 solving mysteries w/Gil Cunningham & his Fiance Alys Maison. This series by Pat McIntosh is full of shall I say 'local color'-The Church looms large in the lives of everyone and figures in all of the mysteries rather heavily as well the cultural references & terminology are at times bewildering & I wish I had a glossary to look up some of the words & phrases in. I recently traced my mother's family genealogy to this exact part of Scotland so I am very intrigued to learn more about it!
There are 9 books in the series & I have so far read 4 of them; The Harper's Quine,The Nicholas Feast,The Merchant's Mark, & St. Mungo's Robin. The author uses a lot of Scots dialect as well as the occasional Latin phrase just to keep the reader on her/his toes.
Now I am off to see if the library has the other 5 books-I hope! 8^)

I've posted my review of a second-in-series historical mystery, Two for Joy, in my thread...post #165.

It's set in sixth-century Constantinople, at Justinian and Theodora's court, and it's a very interesting read.

I've reviewed a barely-hanging-on series mystery, Three for a Letter. Set in 539CE Constantinople, this book almost didn't convince me to move on to book four. See why in my thread...post #15.

Just finished Still Life with Murder set in Boston just after the Civil War. Flawed but still interesting. I'll read more of the series, at least one more and decide after that how far I'll pursue it.

I am currently reading The Asylum by John Harwood. Last night I had to force myself to put it down so I would get enough sleep for work today. I can't wait until the kids are off to bed so that I can pick it up again. Only 60 pages to go - maybe I'll finish it tonight. It is set in the late 1800's, a young woman is locked in an asylum thinking she is Georgina Ferrars yet Georgina Ferrars is safe and sound at Radford house. I can't wait to find out what is going on.

I popped in to Toronto in 1910 around Christmas with A Singular and Whimsical Problem, which was a fun quick read, and thanks to Early Reviewers I have Brooklyn On Fire on the way, so I'll be going to Brooklyn appx. 100 years ago.

Also over Christmas weekend also went to St. Petersburg Florida in the 1980s via the time travel book In Times Like These which was fun. Nathan Van Coops' new book The Chronothon has time travelers racing through time, hitting everything from the ancient past to the distant future and everything in between. I understand it's a big book! I'll be adding it to my TBR pile soon.
