Any holiday, any time. I'll start us off with Rory and the pumpkin:

At one point while I was carving it he had his head inside, checking out the guts :)

If that hadn't have been "RORY", I just would have just ignored it as a "typical USA. holiday", which has no relevance to Australia! Though the money people are "snouting in".

My European background calls it "All Saints Day"

And other aspects of my personality call It SHIT

But you do know that I do "seriously" want to
cuddle/abduct/rescue "rory" from that AMI!

"Do you have this hat in small?" Basil a little unfocussed - but who wasn't?

Unfocused? Could the beer bottles in the corner be the reason? :-)

Oh so cute, both of them.

Unfair, Guido! Just because it's a holiday you don't like, doesn't make it sh*t. Also, it's not just USA holiday - I'm in Canada. The non-commercial aspects are fun, and Rory and Amy both supervised the pumpkin carving with great interest. They'd never seen such a thing before.

3> Basil does look a bit stunned. Probably couldn't believe the shenanigans :) or that you expected him to wear that undignified hat. He is a handsome fellow.

Sorry #6,
I meant the commercialization of Halloween in Aussie is sh*t. The only background is USA TV.
It's a great celebration but has no real meaning in Aussie. It's like you borrowing "Guy Faulks Day"
(alas almost dead here) for the USA.

I wanted to say that quite apart from the bemused cat, #1 shows really great pumpkin carving skills. In my few attempts to carve pumpkins, I have never been able to do anything nearly that artistic and menacing. :)

I gather that Hallowe'en is very popular in Great Britain!

Oh well, any reason to celebrate with chocolate is good in my book! These are great pics.

(14) I totally agree with your 'chocolate' comment.

Here's my Holiday Cat picture:

Speaking of really old kitty pictures, I'm pretty sure I was still a baby when this one was taken. One of a pair of cats that predated me in the family, waiting for his Thanksgiving dinner.

16: My Zoey used to beat the family to the table. No matter where she was in the house, she would come running at the sound of the table being set. We wouldn't feed her, but she would sit on someone's lap for the meal, if there wasn't a free chair. It became a running joke that the last person to the table was the odd man out. lol

>12 staffordcastle: Hallowe'en is celebrated only in parts of Great Britain. Like Guido, England celebrates Guy Fawkes Day. On second thoughts/second reading - maybe Guido doesn't actually celebrate on November 5th.

Nor do we celebrate Guy Fawkes Day here in Western Australia. There is usually a fire ban so no bonfires and any fireworks have to be strictly controlled so they are usually elaborate public displays and on a weekend - not necessarily on 5th November.

Some people try to celebrate Halloween - i.e. kids begging for sweets but they are usually strictly chaperoned by their parents.

26VivienneR
dec 13, 2012, 11:59 am

Fire bans are long past by Hallowe'en here. We get soggy little kids (and their parents) with necessarily over-sized costumes over their warmest clothing. They show up in rain, sleet or snow. I always worried about my cat making a run for it each time the door opened. But she was much too anxious about the strange visitors to go anywhere near them.

(27) HAHAHAHA!

Look at Caddy's expression!

When my father came to visit, he slept on the couch (we were not being inhospitable, long story), and my pair were not amused. One day he went to lie down, and it was warm and wet...someone was expressing his feelings about the matter...

tardis, I also like the dragon ornament in Amy's photo.

35dkhiggin

And the sock monkey ornament and the flying cranes! Cool tree!

36tardis
dec 29, 2012, 3:41 pm

34-35> Thanks! Our tree is eclectic - all stuff we've built up over the years. The cranes look even nicer if facing the right way round - in that picture they're turned backwards. They come from Amos Pewter in Nova Scotia.

Someplace on the tree there's a unicorn to match the dragon.

Err, Tardis. Has Amy put on a "litte" Christmas pudge? Rory looks a bit more confident!

41tardis

Amy is definitely pudgy. We're trying to increase her activity level and decrease (slightly) her food. Rory is quite confident as long as there are no strange people or vacuum cleaners and nobody moves too fast. Sigh. He's just wired for timid, I guess.

I need a camera. My phone just does not cut it. Today Buzz our 2 year old tux was enthusiastically licking the strings of my harp. I really wish I had gotten a shot of it. He has been knocking ornaments off our little tree with great precision and skill. (We put the non-breakable ones on the bottom, and keep hanging them back up, so he can have a bit of fun)
