Hi guys, I am new to this group.

I wanted to see IF other folks have read the Fifty Shades Trilogy by E.L. James, and if so, what were your thoughts?

Also... Do you want this book on our local library shelves----the book has been "banned" in one of our local libraries.

Pure garbage

No redeeming quality to the writing. The story could have been tweaked but was only sensationalized.

I've actually never read it. I have one friend who absolutely loved the series. I probably won't read it-have too many other books that I want to read.

The writing is really bad. I don't think I got past page 30. If someone could point out the "good parts", I'll skip to those.

I have all three because people were raving about them. I think if you are interested in erotica/SM read Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty Trilogy. Its is under A. N. Roquelaure.

Our small 'bring one -take one' library has fiction divided into thillers, chick lit, and general fiction. Does anyone have an opinion on where this belongs? I think for now I left it on the new arrivals shelf.

MarthaJeanne, with only three categories to choose from I think you'd have to put it in your "Chick Lit" section.

That category sounds as if it is for books/pics about girls intended to appeal to boys (we are talking "adults" here, I take it). Don't you have a category for stuff about boys/ guys intended to appeal to girls/dolls? "Fifty Shades" is, I think, in this latter category, a bit of bedtime reading for lonely housewives or maiden aunts. It's perhaps a bit silly to try to compartmentalise erotica so sharply. Sex is generally interesting to everybody so it might be better to rename your "Chick Lit" section and just call it "Erotica".

I'm a guy and I thought "Fifty Shades" (I've only read volume one) a ripping good yarn. It's not "literature" and yes, there are errors of style and syntax as there are in most of what is printed thee days, but it remains a pretty good read.

No, chick lit is fast reading stuff for women with a strong romantic element (can get fairly descriptive, but needn't). Generally stuff that doesn't require a lot of thinking.
