As of November 15, 2012, I have read a total of 100 books in 2012! I'd like to try for an ultimate goal of 130 books read in 2012!

So far, I have actually acquired 126 books in 2012 and donated or purged 102. I think that's great for me. Out of the 101 books that I have donated or purged so far, I have read or reread 40 in 2012. I'm really trying to whittle down and purge as many books as I possibly can this year. It's hard to do, but I'm doing it! :)

So far, I've donated approximately 102 books out of a total of 130 for the year. Not too bad!

Monthly Breakdown

I'm not quite sure how many books I would like to take off my shelf in 2012...so far, I've donated or purged 102 books, having read or reread 18 of those 102 books in 2012!

1. To the Devil a Daughter- This was the first time that I had actually read Dennis Wheatley's work and I began reading this book the day after it joined my TBR pile in December of 2011. Although I did enjoy this book and gave it a B+!, I am not too sure that I would like to read another Dennis Wheatley book for a while. What do you think - am I right or wrong in thinking this? It took me a week to read this book and it was the first book read of 2012. This book was sent off to another good home on January 18, 2012.

2. Winter Harvest - I have read quite a number of Norah Lofts' books and, in fact she is one of my favorite authors. However, I had somehow missed Winter Harvest! This book joined my TBR pile in March of 2011 but I didn't actually read it until January of 2012. I think I was trying to savor it by not reading it right away. It only took me two days to read it and I enjoyed every moment of this book. I gave it an A+! and found it to be a heart-rending portrayal of the Donner Party's doomed trek to California in 1846. This one is a definite keeper on my bookshelf.

3. The Loving Spirit - I have read quite a number of Daphne du Maurier's later books, but this one was her debut novel which I had never read. This book had joined my TBR pile in June of 2010 and it only took me a year and a half to eventually read it! :) I read it in two days and gave it an A+! before I sent this book off to another good home on February 14, 2012.

4. The Murderer's Daughters - This was Randy Susan Meyers' debut novel and I was really looking forward to reading it from the moment it joined my TBR pile in November of 2010. That's why it took me until January of 2012 to begin reading it! :) It took me three days to read it and I enjoyed it so much that I gave it an A+! I sent this book off to another good home on January 24, 2012.

5. Trust: A Novel - This was the second of Kate Veitch's books that I read. Mareena gave this to me as an early Christmas present because she knew that I had enjoyed Kate Veitch's first novel. This particular book joined my TBR pile in December of 2011. I enjoyed this book just as much as Kate Veitch's debut novel and it took me a day to read it! I gave it an A+! and am looking forward eagerly to this Australian author's next book. This is a definite keeper on my bookshelf.

6. A Father's Story - This book joined my TBR pile in March of 2009 and I had read it twice during that time; the reread was in January of 2012. I really enjoy true crime books and this one was no exception - I reread this book in two days and gave it an A+! I sent this book off to another good home on February 12, 2012.

7. Hill Towns - This book joined my TBR pile in September of 2010 and I finally got around to reading it in
January of 2012. I read this book in two days and gave it an A+! Although I have several of Anne Rivers Siddons' books, I have only read four so far. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This book is still in search of a good home! :)

8. Crossroads - Belva Plain is also one of my favorite authors and I was looking forward to reading one of her later novels. This book was my first acquisition of the year and I started reading it immediately after I finished Hill Towns - the same day in fact! It took four days for me to read this book and although it was enjoyable and I gave it a B+!; I considered this particular book to be one of Belva Plain's weaker novels. This book is currently looking for a new home! :)

9. Fortune's Hand - Reading back to back Belvas is a rarity for me, but this time I took the plunge! :) I had just finished reading Crossroads and was looking for another book to start, when Fortune's Hand arrived in the mail. I eagerly delved into one of Belva Plain's earlier novels that had arrived and was not disappointed! It took me two days to read this book and to my mind, it was an A+! work which has earned a spot on my keeper shelf! :) I continually grieve the loss of Belva Plain when I realize that every book of hers that I will ever read or reread (most of them are rereads for me at this point) will never be entirely new for me ever again, even if I read them years apart.

10. The Copper Beech - Maeve Binchy is also one of my favorite authors and this is actually a reread for me from several years ago. Mareena had to reacquire a copy for me as I have currently misplaced my other one. The Copper Beech arrived with Fortune's Hand in the mail as part of a foursome (the other two were audio books) that I received on January 24, 2012. I rounded out January of 2012 with a reread which took me four days to read and gave this book an A+! I have placed it on my keeper shelf until I can locate my other copy! :)

11. Change Baby - This was a book that joined my TBR pile in November of 2009. June Spence is a new author for me and I thought that this book began off February quite nicely for me. It took me three days to read this particular book and I gave it an A+! This book is currently looking for a new home.

12. The Angels of Morgan Hill - This book joined my TBR pile in January of 2009 and during that time I had read it twice; the reread was in February of 2012. Mareena had bought this book for me as a 'just because' present and I thoroughly enjoyed both readings by giving this book an A+! It took me three days to reread this book and then I sent this book off to another good home on March 6, 2012.

13. The Haunted Mesa - These books are actually a set of twins which joined my TBR pile exactly a year apart - one in December of 2008 and one in December of 2009; bought exactly one year apart! :) I accidentally misplaced one of my daughter's 2009 Christmas presents to me and read my first copy, bought from a Library Book Sale for 50 cents in 2008. This was a first reading for me of Louis L'Amour's books, although I did know that he was a very prolific writer of Westerns. Mareena had bought her copy for me for the same reason that I bought the extra copy for myself; I love horror. It took me three days to read this book and I gave it a strong A!. This book went off to a new home on June 19, 2012 and the other copy (which turned up about a month ago) arrived at its new home on July 23, 2012.

14. Family Treason: The Walker Spy Case - This book joined my TBR pile in June of 2009, although I actually read it for the first time in February of 2012. Like I said, I enjoy true crime books although not usually books about espionage. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this book as much as I did - finishing it in two days and giving it an A+! This book is still looking for a good home. :)

15. Malice - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009 and I read it for the first time in February of 2012. Danielle Steel is not my absolute favorite author, but she is sort of a guilty pleasure for me as I've read four of her novels so far. I've always approached Danielle Steel's books with the thought that she is the ultimate 'Master of Fluffiness' - not necessarily a bad way to spend a couple of days reading, but quite a number of her plots I've found would make terrific soap opera plots - and that is not meant as a criticism at all! :) Malice was quite a departure for Danielle Steel; it took me two days to read this book and I gave it an A+! This book is still looking for a good home! :)

16. Dear Doctor Lily - This book joined my TBR pile in November of 2009, although I read it for the first time in February of 2012. This book was very nostalgic for me to read and I gave it an A+! It took me five days to read and this particular book is definitely a keeper for me! :)

17. Claudia's Shadow - This book joined my TBR pile in June of 2009, although I read it for the first time in February of 2012. I seem to have acquired many of my books in 2009 and have noticed that when I read a book for the first time, it is generally around the year and a half to two year anniversary of the book's acquisition! I think that three years is the longest that I have held off on reading a book - as I did with this particular book!

I usually have a difficult time in getting out and about to buy books, and thus I tend to go a little crazy when I'm able to actually get to a place that sells books - be it a bookstore, used book store or library book sales. This book took me three days to read and I enjoyed it; I actually have several of Charlotte Vale Allen's books in my library although I believe this is the first one that I've read. I gave it an A+! and it is currently still looking for a good home. :)

18. My Beloved Son - This book joined my TBR pile on the same day as many of the others that I seem to be reading lately - my daughter's birthday in June of 2009. For my daughter's birthday that year, we both went wild at our local library's book sale - spending approximately 50 dollars each - acquiring approximately 120 books between us (paperbacks are 50 cents, hardcovers are a dollar and hey, we support our local library into the bargain!) Anyway, this particular book took me three days to read and as with many of Catherine Cookson's books, I found her writing somewhat repetitive. I thought that Catherine Cookson was one of my favorite authors when I was younger, and while I still enjoy her books, this one was one of her better ones that I've read so far. I gave it an A! I sent this book off to Mareena's best friend in a package of nine books! She received the package on October 11, 2012! :)

19. Now You Know - I am a huge biography and autobiography junkie, so this was not a particularly tough choice for me to make when choosing my next book to read. I had wanted to read Kitty Dukakis' autobiography since it joined my TBR pile in June of 2009, although it rounded out February of 2012 pretty nicely for me. As 2012 was a leap year, this book took two days for me to read. It was an incredibly honest book for Kitty Dukakis to write and I gave it an A+!, but will happily pass it on to a good home.

20. Saving Face and Other Stories - I began March with a reread of an 'oldie but a goodie' for me. This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009 and during that time I have read it twice; the second time that I read this particular book it took me approximately a day - I started it on the afternoon of the 29th and finished it on the afternoon of the 1st, giving it an A+!. Currently, I consider this book a keeper and I may read it for a third time in a couple of years. :)

21. Bad Desire - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009 and again this actually was another reread for me. It took me six days to reread this particular book and I gave it an A+! It is a definite keeper for me! :)

22. The Exorcist - I am shameless when searching for my next book to read! :) Mareena had received this book through the mail in March and I 'stole' it from her TBR pile to read it first the very next day! :) To be fair, it was a reread for me that took four days for me to finish. I gave it an A+! and Mareena put it back on her TBR pile with my 'personal recommendation'! :)

23. Crescent City - Well, I have gone back to raiding my own TBR pile! This particular book joined my TBR pile in June of 2009, and even though the majority of Belva Plain's books are rereads for me, this is the fourth 'new to me' Belva Plain book that I have read this year! :) It took four days for me to read and I gave it an A+! It was the first book about the American Civil War that I have ever read and it is a definite keeper for me.

24. Towards Zero - I believe that this was my sixth acquisition of 2012 - and I haven't actually gone out and purchased a book yet this year! :) This was actually a recommendation from Mareena's best friend. She is usually more of a 'tawdry romance' reader, so to hear her recommend a list of Agatha Christie mysteries to me was quite a departure - for me at least! :) There is absolutely nothing wrong with reading some romance, my daughter has her own favorite romance authors, and I have already mentioned my own secret stash of Danielle Steel novels that I would like to read through, but I have yet to see my daughter pick up a Jackie Collins novel (or some other romance author who perhaps was popular during the 1980s or 1990s), read it and then rhapsodize about it for an hour on the phone to me! :)

I would like to tell 'Ms. K' that Agatha Christie also wrote romances under a pseudonym, but I somehow think that she would consider them too tame for her tastes. Ms. Westmacott probably didn't include very many 'heaving bosoms straining for freedom from their long and cruelly punishing imprisonment beneath incredibly tight corsets' for Ms. K's appreciation (and if you followed that last rather convoluted sentence, go to the head of the class! :))

Anyway, this was the second Agatha Christie mystery that I had read, and once I had recovered from my shock over who actually recommended this book to me (and that she had ventured so far beyond her static genre of choice to make such a recommendation) I must say that I really enjoyed this book. It took me two days to read this particular book and I began it on the day that it came in the mail. This was the day that I had finished Crescent City and I was on the hunt for another book to read. I gave it an A! and it was sent off to another good home on July 12, 2012.

25. Loose Change: Three Women of the Sixties - As I have already said, I love biographies and autobiographies, and although I had no idea who Sara Davidson was, (she is actually quite a well-known journalist) I was intrigued by her story of meeting her two friends on orientation day on the famous (or maybe infamous) Berkley College Campus in 1962. It was a view of the 'Swinging Sixties' that even though I grew up in - I never witnessed. Perhaps it was because I grew up in a different country, maybe it was because I didn't run with a certain crowd - I never in my life saw drug activity around me, or lived the hippie lifestyle - although I did attend several 'Ban the Bomb' protests during college but was more of a 'Quiet Rebel' who never sought out arrest by the police in England or Wales. This book joined my TBR pile in June of 2009, although I read for the first time in March of 2012. It took me four days to read this particular book and I gave it an A! I sent this book off to another good home on December 9, 2012.

26. The Case of Lucy Bending - Although I have quite a number of Lawrence Sanders' books on my shelves, this is the second one I've read. I believe that I have read some of Lawrence Sanders' books in the past, however this is the first one that I've read since I began tracking my books read in May of 2009! This book joined my TBR pile in June of 2009, although I didn't read it until March of 2012. I really enjoyed this book and gave it an A+! I ended March on a high note as it took me eight days to finish this book! This book was sent off to another good home on April 17, 2012.

27. Outer Banks - This particular book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009; although I didn't read it until April of 2012. I began off April by reading my second Anne Rivers Siddons book of the year. This book was a favorite of mine and took me four days to read. I gave it an A+! and it has earned its spot among my keepers! :)

28. Common Ground - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009, although I read it for the first time in April of 2012. Helen Stancey is another 'new to me' author that I have had the pleasure of reading this year. It took me five days to read this book and I gave it an A+! This book found a new home on April 17, 2012 as part of a duo I mailed off to someone. However, Helen Stancey's two other books have found their way on to my Wish List.

29. Dead Run - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009, although I read it for the first time in April of 2012. I enjoyed this contemporary mystery immensely and gave it an A! It took me two days to read this particular book and is still looking for a good home.

30. Endless Night - The second in a long list of Agatha Christie recommendations, I acquired this book in April of 2012 - a Chinese foreign exchange student who came from Ireland and spoke English fluently! :) I started it the day it came in the mail and spent two days reading it finally giving it an A+!. I sent this book off to another good home on June 23, 2012.

31. Survivor - Okay, so after dipping slightly into the 'reread soup' (Mm-Mm Good!) at the beginning of March, I had thought that I was doing rather well at discovering the 'new and tasty, good for my brain' authors that I had come to enjoy! And that was true until around mid-April - that's when I tipped off the wagon and got a temp job as a 'cupcake taster' for the next three weeks! In my defense, (if there is one) Christina Crawford's autobiography might have been somewhat of a 'I want to read something...oh there's Christina Crawford's book - I haven't read that in a while.' This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009 and during that time I've read it twice. It took me two days to reread and although I did think it was pretty good and gave it a B!, I am happy to send it to another home.

32. True Crime: The Novel - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009 and during that time I have read it twice. The reread happened over three days and earned in an A+! I sent this book off to another good home on August 8, 2012 and have placed several more of Andrew Klavan's books on my Wish List.

33. A Song For the Asking - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009 and during that time I have read it twice. The reread happened over two days and I gave this book an A+! I was thrilled to learn that after this debut novel, Steve Gannon has written and published several more books. I have placed Steve Gannon's other books on my Wish List.

34. Only You - This book joined my TBR pile in January of 2011. Cynthia Victor is a new author for me and I have to say that I acquired three of Cynthia Victor's novels last year. It took me four days to read this book and I gave it an A! It is currently looking for a new home! :)

35. Crooked House - This is the third Agatha Christie mystery that I have read so far this year, it joined my TBR pile in March of 2012. I have to say, 'Ms. K' is currently batting three for three with me. Hmm...there may be help for her yet! :) I enjoyed this book immensely; reading it in two days and giving it an A! This book was adopted by a nice family on May 12, 2012.

36. Looking For Peyton Place - This particular book joined my TBR pile in April of 2012 - I started it the day after it came in the mail, the day I finished Crooked House. Barbara Delinsky is another one of my favorite authors; having read or reread several of her books so far. I found that this book was a nice way for me to start off May of 2012 - it actually took me five days to finish this book and I gave it a B+! I'm more than happy to send this off to another family should they want it.

37. The Saints and Sinners of Okay County - This particular book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009, although I read it for the first time in May of 2012. Mareena had found it for me buried on my bookshelf, hidden almost out of sight. It took me two days to finish off this little gem of a novel; the debut for Dayna Dunbar and I gave it an A+! It is a definite keeper for me! :)

38. A Sight For Sore Eyes - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009, although I didn't read it until May of 2012. I have several other Ruth Rendell's books and I may have read several of them before, although I don't remember which ones I may have read. I do know that this particular book was a first time read for me. It took me four days to read it; I gave it an A+! and it was sent off to another home on June 21, 2012.

39. The Book Club - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009, although I read it for the first time in May 2012. It took me two days to finish this book and I gave it an A+! Mary Alice Monroe is another 'new to me' author that I have had the pleasure of reading this year and this book is my second favorite book of 2012. It is a definite keeper for me and I have placed some more of Mary Alice Monroe's books on my Wish List.

40. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - This book joined my TBR pile in March of 2012 - approximately my tenth acquisition of this year. Mareena actually requested this particular book for me and I have to say that I was slightly wary of starting it right away. Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows were both 'new to me' authors and I was saddened to learn that Mary Ann Shaffer passed away recently. This book was her first and only novel that she never saw published and her niece, Annie Barrows, took over the writing as her aunt grew too sick to continue. This book was an engrossing and touching novel of World War II which I gave an A+! This book took me three days to read, and went on to another person on May 29, 2012.

41. The White Voyage - This particular book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009, although I read it for the first time in May of 2012. John Christopher (which is actually a pseudonym for a prolific, primarily science fiction author) is another 'new to me' author who, I later discovered, passed away in March of this year. Mareena found this book - along with Dayna Dunbar's novel - teetering precariously on my slightly overcrowded bookshelf. :) Mareena has always considered herself my 'Andes Sherpa' ready to scale Mount TBR at a moment's notice to assist me with my occasional excavations. This book took me three days to read and I gave it an A+! It's a definite keeper for me! :)

42. Sally: Unconventional Success - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009, although I first read it in May of 2012. This is the fourth autobiography that I have read so far this year. I enjoyed this book very much; it took me a day to read and I gave it an A+! This book is currently looking for a new home.

43. Her Fearful Symmetry - This book joined my TBR pile in February of 2012 as a 'just because' present from Mareena - approximately my eleventh acquisition of this year. Audrey Niffenegger is a 'new to me' author who I enjoyed very much. This particular book took me four days to read and I gave it an A! This book was adopted by a nice lady on July 5, 2012.

44. Anima - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009, although I read it for the first time in May of 2012. I literally read this book to bits - it took me two days to read and I gave it an A+! It fell apart in my hands as I turned the pages, but it was definitely worth it! :)

45. Lullaby and Good Night - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2012 as part of a threesome that I acquired through the mail. I had read one of Vincent Bugliosi's books several years ago and didn't really like it; so I was slightly wary to read another Vincent Bugliosi book, but I took the plunge in May of 2012. It took me six days to read this particular book and I gave it an A+! This book was sent off to another good home on October 27, 2012.

46. Devil's Gate - This book joined my TBR pile in April of 2009 and during that time I've read it twice. The reread started off June for me. I reread this particular book in five days and gave it an A! and recently acquired Elizabeth Ergas' next book. This book is available to go to another home.

47. The Servant - This particular book joined my TBR pile in January of 2010, although I didn't read it until June of 2012. It took me a day to read and I gave it an A+! I actually saw the movie in 1963 with my sister and loved it. This book went off to a new home on June 12, 2012. :)

48. The Letters - This particular book joined my TBR pile in June of 2009, although I didn't read it until June of 2012. I spent a shocking three days choosing this particular book although it took me only one day to read. I gave it an A+! This book went off to another good home on September 22, 2012.

49. Wife Found Slain - This particular book joined my TBR pile in November of 2009 although I didn't read it until June of 2012. I read this book in two days and gave it an A+! This book is currently looking for a good home. :)

50. The Hampton Sisters - This particular book joined my TBR pile in November of 2009 although I didn't read it until June of 2012. I read this book in a day and gave it an A! This book is currently looking for a good home! :)

51. Hollywood's Greatest Love Stories - This particular book joined my TBR pile in November of 2009 although I didn't read it until June of 2012. I read this book in a week and gave it an A+! This book is currently on my keeper shelf.

52. The Rector's Wife - This particular book joined my TBR pile in June of 2012 as one of Mareena's 'just because' presents for June. It took me three days to read this book and I gave it an A+! This book is currently on my keeper shelf.

53. Sunset in St. Tropez - This particular book joined my TBR pile in June of 2012 as one of Mareena's 'just because' presents for June. It took me a day to read this book and I gave it an A!
