We like to congratulate each other on hitting 75 books. Here's a place where readers can let us know when that happens!

I just finished my first book for 2012! Woo Hoo! Book #1 finished on 1/1/12.

Great job!

Finished two books for 2012! (Know that's not much for you superstars, but I'm hoping to up my pace as I get more confident!!) Also finished reading a bunch of posts on here and realized I'm addicted to LT!

Welcome to the crowd. Some of us consider reading through threads to be equivalent to reading books! Don't worry too much about the numbers, just enjoy your reading and let us in on the secrets.

I have finished five books since New Year's! That's pretty good for me. I am usually knitting. I am currently reading three. Last year I didn't make the 50 book challenge. We shall see what happens here.......Gotta read alot to get there!!

I just realized that I did read two new books (new to me) in January.

One was It by Stephen King. I loved the way the book brought together the adults who had fought It when they were children, but now had to defeat It for good. Lots of action, and I love that the adults lost their memory of what they had done as time went by.

I also read several short stories and novellas by Stephen King, but no other complete books.

The other book I read was The Bleak December is a novel based on the fire at the Winecoff Hotel by David R. Kelly.

I'd previously read The Winecoff Hotel by Sam Heys and Allen B. Goodwin which is a nonfiction treatment of the fire. Many mysteries as to how the fire started have been considered and discarded, and the nonfiction book leaves them open.

As a fiction book, The Bleak December includes the author's theories as to how the fire started. They are interesting to read, but with time seem less and less likely as a possible solution to the question.

The Stephen King books gets five stars from me. The Bleak December would get four.

January 27th - I read the Red Badge of Courage yesterday and today. I thought I had once learned about the ending of the book, but I must have been thinking of another book. Still, I enjoyed reading it. I'll give it 3 stars.
And that brings me up to three books in the challenge.

I was going to read Area 187 Almost Hell but I've given it up part way through. I'm not really all that much into zombie stories and the more complicated it got, the less I liked it. It's also horribly edited which I found distracting. I don't know--some people might like it. Just not me.

Checked my Kindle and found that I have a lot of books on there that I had forgotten about. So I spent the afternoon and evening reading Endurance by Jack Kilborn. My husband actually attempted to speak to me more than once while I was reading it but I couldn't spare any concentration to talk to him.

Endurance is full of some horrifying violence and just a bit of depraved sex. But I guarantee that if you start reading it you won't be able to stop until you've reached the happy resolution...except that there is no happy resolution.

This is my fourth book for the 75 book challenge and I'd give it 5 stars.

Yesterday I read Disaster Preparedness. I'd bought it thinking it would be about man-made and natural disasters. Instead it's an interesting and amusing book about the childhood and early adulthood of the author. Still a good book though. I'd give it three stars. It is my fifth book in the 75 Book Challenge for 2012.

Yesterday evening I read The Red Badge of Courage. I thought that I knew the ending, but I was wrong, so it was well worth reading. I'd give it four stars. That is my sixth book in the 75 Book Challenge for 2012. I keep feeling like I already posted this one, but maybe I just dreamed about it.

Today I read Such Good Boys by Tina Dirmann. It's a true crime book, and I enjoyed reading it. I'll give it four stars. And that's my seventh book in the 75 Book Challenge for 2012.

Just finished Static by Michael Collins. It's an excellent horror story. I'll give it five stars, and it is my eighth book for the Challenge.

Today I finished Genius on the Edge: The Bizarre Double Life of Dr. William Stewart Halsted by Gerald Imber, M.D. It is an excellent biography of the father of modern surgical technique and the hospital he helped to found, Johns Hopkins. I'll give it five stars which is a very high rating for a biography by my standards. That's my first book for February and my ninth book for the Challenge.

I just read Surviving a Natural Disaster Book 1 - A Shocking Look at Lightning by R.M. Wright. I won't count it here since it was only about five pages long, but it was both useful and amusing. I would recommend buying the whole series. They would be quick reading and might save your life someday.

I just read The Thames Valley Catastrophe. It turned out to be just a short story, so I won't count it here either. But it was good reading.

The Nightmare Within by Glen R. Krish. A good book. Dreams come to life. I would recommend it and give it a rating of 5 stars. Tenth book for the Challenge.

The Slab: A Novel of Horror by Michael Collings. Another excellent horror story. I'd give it 5 stars. Book number eleven for the challenge.

Shadow Valley: A Novel of Horror by Michael Collings Another good horror story. Generations become intertwined. Four stars. Number 12 for the Challenge.

Salem 1692: What Devils Made Them Do It? by Bruce Watson. A very short, but interesting book about the Salem Witch Trials. Might be a good place for a student to start some research, but I'll only give it 2 stars for general reading. Number 13 for the challenge.

Torment - A Novel of Dark Horror by Jeremy Bishop. An excellent horror story taking place in the Apocalypse. 5 Stars. # 14 for the Challenge

Deep by Jeremy Bishop. Excellent story of travel to one of Jupiter's moons. Five stars. Book #15 for the challenge.

I just read Serial Uncut by Jack Kilborn. It includes the story from Bad Girl and Serial along with an introduction to Jack Daniels, Detective. Not a book for everyone since it is about serial killers and has a LOT of blood and gore in it. I'm almost ashamed to say how much I enjoyed it. I have to give it five stars. This is book #16 for the Challenge.

I've read five more books by Jack Kilborn (the Jack Daniels series). I'll give them four stars each. So I'm up to 21 books for the Challenge.

Just finished Stephen King's 11/22/63. Unusual for King it is a science fiction story. Definitely rates five stars or more. And so 22 books for the challenge.

That's an ambitious list, carton_beloved. I've never been able to "get into" classics like the works of Jane Austen, Frankenstein or the Canterbury Tales. I hope you'll be able to include your reviews of the books as you read them. --debherter

When I started this challenge in January, I did not think I would be able to read 50 books let alone 75. But I signed up for both challenges. Today, I hit 52 books!

So, I am abandoning the 50 book challenge thread and will move over to the 75 and keep on trucking ... reading!

#70, #71 and #72: Thank you all so much for your congratulations! I seem to be slowing down slightly in September - I just finished my third book today, and I'm usually well into my fourth or fifth book by this time. I'm not too worried about it, though! :)

I've made my third set of 75. I've read 225 books. Onward to set four!

Never in my wildest imaginings did I ever imagine that I would actually read 75 books in one year. Yesterday I read book 75 for this year. And it is only October 4th. Might make it to 100? I finished my 75th book over the weekend. I never thought I would make it.

Book #74 for me was a book I think most everyone in this group would like - One for the Books. If you're not familiar with Joe Queenan, he has quite the book problem - spending too much time reading them, spending too much money on them, and reading too many at a time. I'm going on memory here, but I believe he said he reads 150-225 a year while reading 15-25 at a time. And I thought I had a problem reading 5 at a time. For people who love to read a lot, you will get a lot of laughs out of this book.

Congratulations on reaching the 75 book mark! And I've seen the reviews for the Queenan book--looks like a good one.

I just finished my little summary of the year's reading and I hit 51! That is better than I've done before, and I especially liked the variety of books that I read.

Book #75, done today: On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin. I began reading it in March.

Oh, The Valley of Fear! Wouldn't you know I picked up my Holmes collection a few days ago and read the first few pages of that one. Now I'm wondering if I should get off LT and go read it... LOL!

I managed to complete my second 75:)

oh, no, nothing short for me. Well, maybe mid-range in length, and certainly not "light". I went right on and read the remaining 300 or so pages of The Liberator: One World War II soldier's 500-Day Odyssey from the Beaches of Sicily to the Gates of Dachau. It was an Early Reviewer's book and I was somewhat resisting reading it. You know.... who wants to read a War Memoir during the holidays.

I was so wrong. What a great book. The author was very skillful in accounting this man's war experiences and they clearly illustrated what a good man he was. He was a caring and dedicated officer who put himself at risk repeatedly to assure his men's greatest chances of survival. He also had the unfortunate bad luck to have an unsavory incident hang over him, unresolved, for decades which was clarified when he was in his last decade of life. And I am so glad to have read this book and to know of such a fine man. The author did follow him into civilian life and we learn of ways in which his good character carries through right up until his death, with his wife at his side.

I read about 100 pages an hour. Have always read that fast even back when I was in middle school. Don't know how or why, just been able to.

I am in awe. I wish I could do that! There are so many good books to read! :-)
