Holmes was overflowing with wit, logic, dry humor, and sarcasm. What are your favorite quotes?
Here's one of mine: "It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts."

On a similar subject, I find it interesting how rare it seems that quotes that enter pop culture actually appear in their supposed source material. "Beam me up Scotty" being a well known Star Trek example. When it comes to Sherlock Holmes, "elementary my Dear Watson," is of course, the most well known. Can anyone think of other examples from Holmes? I'm sure there are, I'm just not thinking of them at the moment.

that's true, even though that particular quote never occurred in the canon, (just as Bogie never said "Play it again, Sam").
but another one of these must be
"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth".
as far as Eris' question, how about these Sherlockisms?
"May I direct your attention to the curious incident of the dog in the night"
"But the dog did nothing in the night"
"THAT is the curious incident!".
and...
"I followed you"
"But I saw no one"
"That is what you may expect to see when I follow you".
and there are so many more! i look forward to seeing them posted here.

Actually, Holmes never said "Elementary, my dear Watson." It went more along the lines of:
"Brilliant!" I cried.
"Elementary," said he.
"Brilliant!" I cried.
"Elementary," said he.

Which was from Henry V but I do admit, Holmes owned it :D
Here's another one: "My name is Sherlock Holmes. It is my business to know what other people don't know." from The Blue Carbuncle
I am just aching to use that line - just once in my life!
