I posted this initially over at Name that Book and they suggested I repost over here. I hope someone can help!!

My mother had a boxed set of books that centered around the story of the 12 dancing princesses. It sounds like it was based off of Grimm's story since the princesses would go in a trap door to escape and would dress up in fancy clothes and there was a prince involved. The books were small, maybe 6x8 inches and came in a boxed cardboard container with I believe 12 different books for each princess. My mother grew up in British Columbia, Canada, so maybe it was a Canadian publisher. They would have been published around 1940-1955. She also told me that there were color illustrations with each princess and they were in medieval dresses. I would LOVE to get these for Christmas, but I'm not having a lot of luck finding them. I had thought for a while that it was the fairy books by Andrew Lang, but they really are centered entirely on the 12 Dancing Princesses.

I see the challenge, here. A point-blank term-search yields either Barbie or Wildwood Dancing. I'm intrigued, now, so I'll keep looking.

Good luck! I've found absolutely nothing online because, like you say, Barbie kind of has flooded the market.

I don't have an answer for you, but here is a website that might help. Loganberry Books - Stump the Bookseller.

I did post there and they just put it up today, so hopefully I'll get some hits there. Thanks though- it's a fascinating website.

bleener03,

Are you familiar with the SurLaLune Fairy Tales website: http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/ The site has lots of information, is run by some experts in the field of fairy tales, and has a section for discussion and such. Additionally, SurLaLune has an ongoing project to collect titles, illustrations, etc., from as many old versions of the fairy tales as possible. If you find the title, I would like to know it. That story is one of my favorites.
