I made myself a promise that I can not buy any more books until I finish at least most my old ones. Some books on my shelves I read a long time ago and they need to be re-read, some books just have been sitting there collecting dust. For some reason I always end up reading everything but what I have at home. I am 15, and my rooms looks way too crowded with all those books laying around! Anyway, I would also love if anyone could suggest me some titles based on what I read and liked.
So far these are the books that I own and read so far.
Title/rating out of 5
1) All the Pretty horses 2.5
2) The Devil in the White City 5/5
3) The Count of Monte Cristo 4.5/5
4) A Tree Grows In Brooklyn 3/5
5) My Family and Other Animals 5/5
6) Birds, Beasts, and Relatives 5/5
7) Robinson Crusoe 5/5
and I need to read 15 more before I can buy anything else, hopefully that would be done before new year. I barely have time with taking 9 classes in school, a college class, going to the gym, an having some sort of a social life.

Hi, Tanya, welcome to LibraryThing!

I see you've read two of Gerald Durrell's books; he has written many others that you might enjoy. Many of them are about his experiences collecting animals around the world. A couple of title are The Overloaded Ark and The Bafut Beagles. I think that my favorite one, though, is My Family and Other Animals.

Hi. Thank you for your suggestions. I actually read all of his books, I just own these two. I read them a long time ago though, so it might be a good idea to read them again, since I remember enjoying them very much. He was my favorite author when I was about 9-10. Thank you for reminding me about these books, I completely forgot that I even read them. =)

Yeah, I read them all when I was in my teens, and even talked my mom into taking us to visit his zoo on Jersey!

If you're asking us which of the books on your shelves you should read, that's a bit tricky as long as we don't know what books you have on your shelves...!

If you like Gerald Durrell, then I suppose animal stories like Jack London or Richard Adams (Watership Down, Shardik) might be something for you. But you've probably read all those. Or other books about growing up in the countryside, e.g. Cider with Rosie, Lark rise to Candleford, Marcel Pagnol (My father's glory, Manon des Sources, etc.).

If you like The count of Monte Cristo and Robinson Crusoe then what about Robert Louis Stevenson and Sir Walter Scott? or Jules Verne? Or Stendahl or Victor Hugo?

Hi, Tanya,

Since you apparently loved The Count of Monte Cristo you might want to try some of Dumas' other books - The Three Musketeers, The Man in the Iron Mask. Have you tried Gulliver's Travels?

to thorold: No, I'm just asking in general. You're making me want to go out and buy more books, which I really shouldn't do. =) I've only read Jules Verne and Jack London out of the authors you mentioned, I remember White Fang by Jack London was really good.
to cyderry: I've read Three Musketeers (couldn't put it down, it was such a page turner for me) and Gulliver's Travels, never read The Man in the Iron Mask though.
to staffordcastle: Did she actually take you to see it?

Yes, she did! It was a very nice zoo, though small. We were visiting England, and took a *tiny* airplane over to Jersey, which is a very pretty place with pleasant weather. We spent the afternoon in the zoo, stayed over one night, and flew back to the English mainland the next day. My sister and I had been collecting all Durrell's books for so long! I still have most of them, though some of them are falling apart.

What did you expect in this group and in LT in general? ;) We all fight our Mounts of books... and keep adding to them.
Welcome on board and have fun :)
