Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for things similar to the Queen's Thief series? Or of similar authors to MWT? Or just anything terrifically good, really. I've found that people recommend Elizabeth E Wein's The Lion Hunters series (starting with The Winter Prince) quite often as a similar series to TQT...

I've been given the same recommendation, Maid Marian, and have been slowly gathering Wein's books so I have them all before I start reading them. The only one I'm missing is The Empty Kingdom... maybe I'll just see if the library has it...

That's the last one (and the best!) - I found the first (The Winter Prince) to be quite different to the rest of the series, and was really NOT what i was expecting! I couldn't really see why it had been recommended as a similar series to MWT's, but I ended up enjoying it anyway. I managed to get TWP off Bookmooch, but had to resort to Betterworldbooks for the rest. I noticed in my last re-reading of The Thief that Wein's series is actually mentioned by MWT at the back, in the list of books she recommends/enjoys, so that was interesting!

I recommend the Bartimaeus series by Jonathan Stroud (starting with The Amulet of Samarkand) to Megan Whalen Turner fans -- it's a different sort of fantasy, but there's good writing and considerable snarkiness to be had, so I think it's comparable.

Well, I've read and reviewed Wein's The Winter Prince and I liked it very much. Definitely pretty dark though. The stories are very different but I do see why Wein would be compared with MWT. I've since read the next book in the series, A Coalition of Lions (review forthcoming), and I agree that it's much more similar in terms of plot and characters to MWT.

And foggidawn, I agree about the Bartimaeus books! I read them last year and was blown away by what Stroud was able to do with a superficially goofy storyline. The second and third books are the best, imo — love the emotional punch they pack.

Any other MWT-esque recommendations?

I've read and reviewed the second book in Wein's series, A Coalition of Lions, and it was excellent. There are even more similarities to Turner's Attolian books in this one. I recommend it!

Hi there! I'm a big fan of this series, so much so I put together a list of books that are similar to the Queen's Thief series here. I crowd-sourced many of the suggestions from the fan group and Goodreads recommendations, plus other recommendations I've read. I also included a list of books people say similar, but really weren't. I should add the "Winter Prince" to that section since I agree with Maid Marian that it's quite different.

Anyways, I'd love it if you could help me continue to grow this list and give some feedback!
