I am having a problem with my k1 and I am wondering if it is fixable.

The battery I had in the reader failed and I was getting no response from the k1. When I installed a brand-new battery I got a line on the screen which said "Please insert a new battery" and I can get no other response. Does anyone know if the battery is bad or if the machine has failed?

I hope all it needs is a new battery because if the k1 has failed I can't afford a new one. Any information would be appreciated.

Calling Amazon customer service would seem to be your best option. Unfortunately, I have no experience with the K1. My Kindle is a 2nd generation machine, and only around 6 or 7 months old, so I have not had serious issues yet, and hopefully will not for some time. I could not afford to replace it if such replacement became necessary, so I know how you feel regarding that.

Maybe the second battery is discharged? Did you try charging for several hours?

>3 krazy4katz: Yes indeed! And the charging light was on for quite some time and finally went off with no change in the situation.

Definitely call Customer Service. They're great.
