So, at our ripe old ages, do any of us still make new year's resolutions? Of course, many of us made implicit resolutions by joining challenges here on LT. Any other non-book-related resolutions? Personally, I am seriously pursuing weight loss, continuing the progress I started at the end of 2010. Wish me luck!

I lost 30 pounds in 2010 and I am working to lose 30 pounds in 2011 so I'm behind you all the way. But my resolution for 2011 is do my best to make it to 2012.

Congrats to you! And, yes, please do make it to 2012!

I don't like to make resolutions because I too easily break them. Instead, I tend to give each year a theme (not necessarily different). Last year was the year of reading where I did the 75 book challenge -- read 79.

This year, though, I did make a resolution: I resolved that I would only allow myself to purchase one new book for every three previously unread books in my library that I finally read. (Is that clear? Seems convoluted to me.) I'd like to read more of the books in my existing library before I continue to expand.

Oh, and for the record, I made it to January 7th before blowing my resolution with a 1932 Everymans' "The Heart of Mid-Lothian" which I smuggled into the house and hid in plain sight on my already overcrowded bookcase. My son warned me that I'd know I failed when I started writing myself I.O.U.s -- well, we just won't tell him, will we....

I read an article (by Lucy Mangan) in the Observer magazine last year and copied the idea. It didn't last, so I'm trying the same again this year:

This year I'm going to be 10% thinner, 10% fitter, 10% nicer to people I don't like, 20% more patient generally, 25% more tolerant in queues, and 25% more generous to beggars if I can afford it. All this will make me a 100% better person!

I'm following the Organize Now! week by week plan as my resolution. The week 19 -Organize Your Books should take me....um....about 6 months or so ;-) Making it to 2012 would work for me too. Good luck to all!
