Om migCollege almost ruined reading for me. I was a politics major, which meant that reading was the bulk of my work. There was always more to read than I was ever going to actually get done, which meant a constant sense of guilt surrounding books. They felt like work. I expected this to stop after college.
It was almost three years after my graduation that I was really able to start reading again. There are two things that saved me. Book collecting and comic books. Book collecting reminded me that I loved books, even if I didn't want to read one right this very moment. I kept grabbing books that caught my eye or my imagination. I started with reference, things I could flip through. I expanded my selection of cookbooks & gardening books greatly as I dreamed of my own homestead. The thing that really got me back into narrative was comics. I was recommended Saga by Brian K Vaughn and it was a whole world of delight. Since then I've been able to read novels again.
It has been wonderful.
Om mit bibliotekOnly a small portion of my library is currently here (it's going to take a while to get it all in!). My library is a reflection of my tastes and interests. There are large sections for SciFi, Horror, Gluten-free/Vegetarian/Vegan Cooking & Baking, Paganism, Food Gardening & Politics. I also have a small collection of comics and a relatively large collection of zines. Someday soon I hope to have my entire library on the site so that I can really get a picture of what it all looks like together. My collection also includes (currently boxed away) middle readers & children's books that I am saving for my future children. It's important to me that they grow up in a house full of books.
