Om migRetired - late-seventies - reading is a hobby but also provides a resource for grandchildren. Serious reading only started once I retired and began some Open University courses. Prior to that most reading was 'work' related. Now pleasure and inquisitiveness about a wide variety of subjects, crafts etc.
Om mit bibliotekMany inherited from parents and grandparents, the latter had been a newspaper editor for over forty years. He was also an author and reviewed many books which has resulted in our library having quite a number of First Editions, sadly not of any great significance. Our own additions are very broad in subject matter . Only books we own now, are included in the library. A significant number of 'children's books are on the shelves, some owned by grandmother who was a teacher and some left by our daughter who is a teacher.
One pleasure of doing this cataloguing is to rediscover some of the books we have and start to reread them. However that doesn't stop us buying more, online, and from Bookshops which seem to 'grab us' as we pass(or not pass!)
As traveling is no longer an option, we do our journeys through the eyes of others, whilst not so adventurous, still very enjoyable and we don't get held up in airports etc.
Having now almost completed the cataloguing of our books, we can set about deciding which to keep and which to pass to the local charity shop.
Space demands that we make some decisions although I anticipate that there will be some lengthy discussions!
Some decisions have been made and a considerable number of books passed to Oxfam who have set up a specialist used book shop locally where by providing the required information sales of donated books books attract the benefit to Oxfam of 'Gift Aid' on the sale proceeds. Worth doing when disposing of books. Everyone benefits(except the Treasury - oh dear!).
