About My Library
I used to buy lots of books. Then I went to library school and now I tend to borrow books instead of buy them. The only books I still buy are for "my" authors - Pratchett, Alan Dean Foster, Martha Grimes, Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels, certain non-fiction books and some others. So most of my library consists of things I bought in the late 80's, early 90's when I was a member of QPBC. I have all of Jane Austen's books, lots of British history (Alison Weir, Carolly Erickson, etc,), Bill Bryson and Tim Cahill, Elizabeth George, Dorothy Gilman. There are lots of authors I'm obsessive about these days, but I use one main criteria to determine what I'll buy vs. what I'll borrow - how many times will I re-read it. If I know I'll re-read it more than twice, then I buy it.
About Me
I've been wanting to start a Library Thing account for a long time, but somehow knew that I'd never have enough time to catalog all the books I own. Additionally, I'm a librarian and these days, though I read constantly, I don't buy books very often. Then I had an idea - why not use Library Thing to keep track of all the books I've read in a year? I've always wondered just how much I read (and people area always asking me) - now I can find out! I started this on July 17, 2007, listing all the books I've read since July 1. I'll list every book I read, whether it's a re-read or a first-time read, but I won't include books I don't finish. Let's see how big the list gets...
