Di scribes a marriage that fell apart into cruelty; and a population of poor Irish in a violent culture (1), dream like. Battling with ghosts and trauma (1), much like living before electricity or cars. not great writing but kept me engaged. Liked main character (1), magical (1), gets more scattered as the book proceeds. Some beautiful writing. Good (1), but just did not connect deeply with anyone in the story. father commits suicide. Mainly the story of how the family deals with one of the sons with major depression disorder /anxiety. I liked the last part of the book best (1), debate team champion in high school. Raised by two psychologist grows up and is trying to manage his life. interesting writing. Loved the sections that described debate (1), follows a slave from Barbados and a white man obsessed with flying who both rescues him and infantilizes him (1), young doctor travels across Yugoslavia to get her grandfather's belonging. Funny (1), several generations. Won the Booker. Well written. I generally prefer novels that follow one character deeply however. But would def recommend (1), complicated book with lots of characters. Perfect for our time. All black women in different situations. Explores being trans (1), but also very personal. Moves about the United States and shows different conditions for slaves and former slaves in different states. Good for the history and the read (1), follows a slave that has supernatural powers. Exposed the horrors of slavery (called the Tasked in this book) (1), her brother is an addict with a new baby. told in small vignettes. a little hard to get into at first but it starts to weave together (1), loner woman with dull life opens up. Fun (1), interesting read. post climate change catastrophy in NYC. main character works in a library (1), suicidality but I thought it all worked. I felt close to the characters. (1), told by the sisters. one successful owned a restaurant involved in local politics and charity and goes to jail for embezzlement. Younger generation is disturbed. takes on bulimia (1), loved this book. well written although not incredible writing. But mainly I really liked the characters and even the less likeable ones were portrayed with compassion. Takes place in St. Joe. AA family (1), but didn't relate that much to the main character (1), decent read. Woman physicist gets a phone call from her dead best friend. Well written with insight into human nature (1), Written from the voice of teenage girl about her uncle dying of AIDS in the 1980s. Sweet (1), but loved the book. So sweet and funny and sad and complicated. The main voice of a young girl rang true to me and her parents were presented really sympathetically (1), I know it says it is a young readers book and it is about kids with cancer which does not appeal (1), story of a german woman during WW 2 who has an affair with a Jew and her growing involvement in resistance and helping save jews. (1), but got long and some what tedious midway through. Hard to follow in the beginning (1), based on the life of Margeret Mead. Addressed many issues about the ethical issues of looking at other cultures and fascinating look at the first intersection of two cultures. Great read for anyone interested in anothropology (1), man looking back when he was a teenager in small town in Minnesota and solving the mystery of several deaths (1), reads like a memoir. But great insight into how it feels to be a returned ex-pat to Nigeria after living in the US for many years. Very good description of how corruption is the grease that keeps it all moving (1), but not great book about a young woman who is watched by her cousin for a summer and the tragic ending. Quick read (1), this time a mid-evil village transiting from agriculture to sheep raising and the change in ownership and power in the village. I did not think the characters were as well developed as some of his other novels. Simple straightforward and realistic language. kind hearted toward almost all the characters. (1), mythic. incredibly written. Civil war masterpiece (1), can get inside every character's head (1), woman is kidnapped in Egypt and her sister comes to find her. Great insights into war (1), who is also doomed (1), who runs a doomed campaign against Putin and a woman with Huntington's disease (1), follows her original and new family. Keeps the story moving.
