About My Library

When I buy expensive books, they tend to be books whose forms tell intriguing stories about the book as an object. Sometimes this is a fine binding, sometimes it's a book that has barely limped into the 21st century, sometimes it barely even counts as a book at all. I have a large collection of pre-1800 books in paper bindings, especially.

Attached to these is a growing reference collection on the history of the book, book structures and preservation, and book collecting.

I've also got what a friend referred to as a "shrine to Terry Pratchett:" As of spring 2019, I have every official Discworld book: I'm moving on to the tie-in books as well as the non-Discworld stuff. Plus, of course, I've got plenty of just book-books: mostly nonfiction, a selection of novels as well.
About Me
"His tastes as a collector ran to the obscure and inexpensive. Any bric-a-brac with writing on it was beyond his capacity to resist."

Book professional: I can't take my work home with me so I buy it for myself. If it's cataloged, it can't be hoarding.
