Om migI'm a reader with interests broad enough that it is easier to tell you what I don't read. Most books that you can find in shopping marts I don't read. That includes romance, thrillers, romance thrillers, and thriller romances.

I do read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi, and a LOT of non-fiction on various subjects, like world mythology, philosophy, current events, linguistics, books (Yes, books about books) , and so on.

I have never read the lord of the Rings Trilogy, or the Hobbit, and don't intend to any time soon.

I am also an avid traveler. I spent a year in Japan, three in Hawaii, a month in Wisconsin (strange land, that) and visit Taiwan when I can.

Om mit bibliotekAfter selling my soul to computers and gaming for half a decade, I'm trying to remember how to read and write again. To get the gears moving up to speed I've set a goal of 52 books read within the year, with reviews accompanying each. For someone with willpower that may not seem like much, but I have no willpower.

See how I'm doing on my Wiki Page

How I rate:

While 'quality' is certainly a factor, whether or not I actually -liked- the book is a factor too. For something as personal as reading you can't tell much from a star system, so my goal is to include an in depth review of everything rated to explain my rating. In general the way I rate is the following:

1 Star - Didn't like it. Didn't finish it. Skipped large chunks of writing out of boredom or frustration. Cannot see why someone -would- like it. On top of that, the writing wasn't good.

2 Stars - Didn't like it but it has its merits beyond my taste. Either the writing was awful but the ideas were fun, or the writing was great but the ideas were heinous, or perhaps there was nothing particularly bad about it but I was not the audience at all.

3 Stars - Read it, forgot it. Plot was basic, writing was basic, nothing caught my breath or my heart or my mind. Wasn't bad, but could have been a lot better.

4 Stars - A good book. I enjoyed it and forgot that I was reading because I was engrossed in the story or ideas. The writing may not have been the best, or something about the book irked me to the point where I could point out specific areas that I was not happy with.

5 Stars - Awesome. These are the books I read for. They may not be perfect but they sure as hell are close. I will read these multiple times and probably enjoy the prose enough to have a line or two or small, well written scenes memorized.
