About My Library
I mainly read fiction, including everything from 19th century authors and to contemporary writers from around the world in English translation. George Eliot and Yasunari Kawabata are probably my favorite authors. Other top ones (which I can think of at the moment) include Doris Lessing, Ursula LeGuin, Susan Minot, Jonathan Lethem, Mervyn Peake, Alan Hollinghurst, Peter Taylor, Elizabeth Bowen. I have terrible allergies so I've had to start buying hardcover books or disposing of my paperbacks before they turn yellow, much to my distress. Favorite books include "Tender is the Night," "A Woman of Means," "Middlemarch," "The Woman in White," "The Scarlet Letter," "The Swimming-Pool Library," "The Dispossessed," "Absalom, Absalom," "The Quincunx," "The First Verse," etc.
