Om migI love reading, cooking, travelling, photography, experimenting with social media
I've always loved books - my parents always had lots of them. My local library opened when I was 5 years old and was on the way home from school next to the playground - so it was a popular stopping off point. Became a library monitor at school when I was 10 years old etc etc.
I loved all the imaginary journeys of my childhood & adolescent reading and now I have been fortunate to travel to many places I read about, but never dreamt of visiting.
Like other members of my family, I find it impossible to dispose of any of our books, so more bookshelves are added and books are spread in nearly every room of our home.
Professionally I have found books invaluable in the various fields where I've worked. Now my organization's global library reports to me - just the latest stage of my lifelong library journey. I've loved the move into electronic libraries over the last 20 years or so, as it makes more knowledge findable to researchers & students across the world. E-book Readers like Kindle interest me, but I haven't bought one. However I still remain committed to the printed book.
I work in Technology and am an escapee politician after 12 years as an elected City Councillor. Child minding for my daughter during Council meetings took place in the meeting room of our main City Library, so kicking off the next generation book lover.
I am enjoying revisiting so many delightful memories while I am listing my family's book collections on LibraryThing. And being reminded of the books yet to read.
