About My Library
Predominantly Southern literature, with a rather healthy dose of English history.
About Me
I am a Southerner. I am not hill folk; my people come from Finland, England, Germany and Austria, but I have two great grandmothers who are Cherokee. We came in not only through Ellis Island, but New Orleans as well.

A love of books was bred into me, I think. My parents have the most extensive personal library I've ever seen, and I recall having plowed through their collection when I'd run out of my own books.

This habit was good in many ways, as it expanded my horizons, but it also lent a twist to my own imagination, and I now have a somewhat amusing habit of making up stories in my own mind about other people. (Oh, EVERYONE has a story, but will they share it???) I suspect, with shame, there could lurk the heart of a gothic bodice-ripper novelist within my breast.

My preference is decidedly literature with a Southern bent to it - I believe there is a cultural approach to it I find comforting, but in these very same books I find strong female characters, something I am quite familiar with in my own family. I also enjoy English history for some reason - the perfect blend of art, romance, politics, religion and intrigue is enough to get anyone's heart racing! - at least my own!

While growing up barefoot in horse country, digging for crawdaddies and fishing, my grandmothers tried valiantly to make a lady of me. In many ways they succeeded; I like to think my good manners, posture, and cooking skills come from them... My mother taught me about pure female strength, how to write a thank you note, make everyone comfortable who visits, and the importance of a sense of humor... but to be honest I'd still rather be sitting in the bass boat with my Granddaddy casting and passing the time.

I'm a book-o-phile, and can plow through several in a month, and occasionally many at one time. So many books, so little time! I love our local library! I've found so many treasures there! I also haunt bookstores and estate sales when time permits - searching for oldies but goodies.

I discovered Gone with the Wind at thirteen, and have since reread it over two dozen times. I am currently pulling together a compilation of Scarlett O'Hara's self and culture. It is a project of love.

I have been fortunate in feathering my nest of life with some extraordinarily gifted and talented creative types, and am hoping to entice them onto LibraryThing, as I believe this venue will only grow. In this day and age of computers, we still read every day - even if it is online!

Greetings to one and all!
I am so pleased to be here!
