Black Laboratory of Archaeology is a university-centered research laboratory, museum, library, and meeting place for the discovery, preservation, exhibition, and celebration of Indiana’s rich cultural and archaeological heritage. It is a repository for archaeological artifacts, data, and documentation for sites in the Midwest including those associated with Indiana’s largest archaeological site, Angel Mounds State Historic Site.

Kellar Library contains several thousand books, reports, and magazine and newsletter runs pertaining to archaeology and anthropology; the Ermine-Wheeler Voegelin Archives, which contains The Great Lakes-Ohio Valley Ethnohistory Collection, an enormous amount of papers collected in evidence of land claim disputes between the United States federal government and the Native American tribes; the archeology papers of Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical mogul; the personal papers of notable Indiana University archeologists; the records of the Midwest Archeological Conference; and the institutional records of the Glenn A. Black Laboratory; and the Glenn A. Black Laboratory Fieldwork Archives, which contains excavation records, field notebooks, maps, inventories, and other types of documentation.
