In my case (1), This specific book is great around president's day or during an election year. With this book (1), I would print a list of all the presidents mentioned (1), and have students cross hem out as I read. This will keep them engaged and listening to all I have to say. The book discusses some great things that past president's have done as well as some not so great things that some president's decided to do. After (1), I will have an activity where the students will make a list of what makes a good president. (1), There are many ways a teacher can incorporate a lesson from this book. It can be used on how to follow directions the correct way (1), if here are behavioral problems in the classroom. Or (1), this book had a lot of words with the silent "e" and this could be one way that I can show students how to use the silent letter and what it does to other vowels in the word. (1), if I know that my class is nervous. After (1), Fiction and non fiction (1), I would use this book as a creative tool to help students write a story and use drawings to support their story. We could also do a school planting project. (1), This book can be used to assist students with their editing process and knowing that they can always make changes that will work for them; just make the story their own. (1), I absolutely love this book! Not only is it entertaining (1), but it also exposes students to crayon names that they may not know. I would probably do an activity with students coloring out of the ordinary. So (1), if they would normally color the sky blue (1), I'd tell them to chose a different color and then explain why they chose that color. We can also role play with the book to really understand how the characters feel when approaching a new word. (1), rhythm and rhymes (1), I would read this book to my class before a spelling test to help get the nerves and jitters out (1), Writing letters (1), emotion and feelings (1), Nursery rhymes (1), Wordplay (1), word plays (1), Word play (1), Friendship shown through poetry (1), text structure (1), Theme (1), Cause/effect (1), immigrant/ moving (1), author's study (1), map keys (1), and nature (1), poetry terms (1), life and plant cycles (1), whole class (1), and sequencing (1), and diversity (1), This may be a book that I would read on the first day of class that would set the tone of what could happen if there was no respect in the class. I could elaborate by asking students to write down (1), but it can only be the best if it's this best to them. I would definitely do a writing assignment and instruct my students to be as creative as possible. (1), three things that make up a good teacher This way we're on the same page. I will do the same by listing my expectations for my students. (1), doesn't mean you shouldn't do what you're supposed to. (1), I will discuss that they are now trapped in a web of lies because no one told the truth. Once you tell one lie you have to keep telling lies to cover the first one. (1), then those students will group and say (1), "you're one of us." They will regroup and I will name something else (1), this activity can continue until everyone is included. Great whole group activities can be incorporated in this lesson. (1), Although this book is about presidents (1), we can also do activities based on leadership and maybe complete (1), a T-chart on the difference between leaders and followers. (1), When dishonesty is happening too often in the classroom (1), this is a great book about telling the truth. One activity that we can do is a yarn activity. The web of lies activity will start with a student telling a lie and holding on to the end piece of yarn. Once their lie is told (1), they'll toss the yarn across the circle. Once everyone gets a turn and is holding their piece of yarn (1), Another great book when it comes to theme and author's purpose. We could use this as a discussion tool on maybe comparing and contrasting the two girls. (1), Great book to read on the first day of school for those who have move schools. We can play a game like musical chairs. I will name something that someone might have in common with someone else. For example (1), Great book for TEKS on poems; we can discuss rhyming with this books. We can write 4 of 5 lined poems that rhyme or don't . (1), encourages students to do things to make other people smile as well. (1), Imagination is key for this book! Extremely popular book. We can talk about the roles of each family member and what their jobs are. (1), Encourages students to have a good day and always find the positive things in life. Also (1), Book on acceptance; Each student can write about a time that they were left out and how they felt about it. (1), If sharing is a problem (1), this is a great book. (1), I like the wording in this book (1), they can remain engage by saying "Chicka Chick Boom Boom" as a class. I can assign each student a letter and have them read their part when their letter comes up. This will give everyone a chance to say something and participate. (1), it shows that you can make a story out of just about anything. The activity that I could use would probably be the one in the book. I'll have words clipped out from magazines and have the students collaborate in their table groups to come up with a story (1), they will have the option to act it out or illustrate for it. (1), It is a real challenge for students to build up their confidence when writing their story. I think this book is a great way to help build students' confidence. This book touches base about a boy who feels like he has nothing interesting to write about (1), until he does some digging and actually finds a great story to write. I would ask the students to write a letter to Ralph and give him on tips on what he could do to make himself comfortable before he sits down to write. Then I would make a connection by (1), Beginner reader book: Very humorous book! I would use it with kindergarten students (1), I would give them 2-4 letters and tell them to draw a picture of something that has the same beginning sound as the letter they were given. (1), Beginner reader book: Great book for class participation (1), since the book is repetitive (1), Repetition (1), My all time favorite book as a child!! It shows that just because you're different doesn't mean you should be an outcast. It tells students to stay true to who they are and be themselves. An activity for this book would be to write down one thing that you (1), Encourages students to read for fun and enjoy what books have to offer (themes). There is a TEK on theme and this is a great book to discuss on theme and even the author's purpose. (1), timieline (1), I read this book for my BESL2 class and it discusses a boy who does things in the wrong time of day. The activity that I would do a lesson on scheduling. I would have a each student right down their daily activities and then compare them with a shoulder b (1), This is a book about a student who faces a disease and the students don't want to include him anything. This book is mainly for bullying and I would just use is as a discussion and maybe a point of view exit ticket They can put themselves in his shoes and (1), Another book on the writing process. This book can be used to give ideas to students who are having troubles writing and adding pictures to the book. I like that this shows ownership and that they can (1), have free will to write about what they want as long as it is appropriate. (1), Motivating tool: This book can be used to help students enjoy writing by giving them a special pencil. Once they write (1), "Ea" words (1), they can pick a partner to act out their story with to make it "come alive." (1), Assists with bullying and making sure all students are included in all activities. If my class is having a real trouble with inclusion (1), I will probably have one sheet of paper that I tape to every students' back.
