About My Library
Shelves! Shelves! Shelves! It's all about shelf space in the master bedroom. Each of the kids have a selection of age appropriate titles in their respective rooms. The living room shelves are full of classic and modern literature. There are a couple shelves for the art books and I need to figure out a solution for the ever expanding graphic novel section. The master bedroom reading nook is dedicated mainly to history and other related non fiction like travel writing. One wall is solely dedicated to genre fiction though and it is the one I turn to most frequently in times of need. Philosophy has migrated to the office shelf, where they are often loaned out to curious college students.

Below is the Rating System that I have adopted:
★★★★★ PERFECT - All-time favorite
★★★★.5 EXCELLENT - Very enjoyable/Highly recommended.
★★★★ VERY GOOD - An author to watch
★★★.5 GOOD - Will look for more by same author
★★★ ENJOYABLE - But nothing special
★★.5 OKAY - Mildly enjoyable but forgettable
★★ POOR - Dull plot or interesting idea wasted
★.5 VERY POOR - Difficult to finish
★ TERRIBLE - Could not finish
0.5 TRASH - Should never have been published

About Me
I am an avid reader, but I am also a slow reader. I have been told by others that I have a high recall rate on the books I read, but it comes at a cost. I can bring myself to skim and I will often go back and reread a tricky section if it was confusing. These days I find myself reading mostly children's books to my 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter.

Another year has passed, and as such, it is time to start a new list to keep track of the books i will be reading in 2018. 2017 maxed out at 30 titles. Meh, I'll take it. Parenthood has lowered my expectations for all matters relating to free time. On the plus side, I spend a lot of reading time plowing through board books with the kiddos. Anything I can do that even has a chance of increasing their chances of loving books is a worthy sacrifice in my mind. 2017 had me on a regular 10 minute commute which resulted in lots of audio books on the list. Also, I am now in charge of all dish cleaning in the Hahn Household which lends itself well to more audio books. Audible has become useful, but I can't listen to in depth non fiction. I have to be able to sit down and mark my favorite bits. Not so with adventure novels like Bernard Cornwell and other fun story time books.

Anyway, here is the current list for 2018:

1. Triplanetary by E.E. "Doc" Smith
2. Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire by Neil Gaiman and Shane Oakley
3. Artemis by Andy Weir
4. The Land Without Stars by Mezieres and Christin
5. Arguably by Christopher Hitchens
6. King Ottokar's Scepter by Herge
7. The Wright Brothers by David McCullough
