Humorous definitions, re-using place names as the headwords. The original Meaning of Liff (1983) contains around 500 of these. The six-page supplement contained in the Utterly Utterly Merry Comic Relief Christmas Book (1986) consisted of around 100 new definitions. Most (but not all) of these found their way into The Deeper Meaning of Liff (1990), not a sequel but an expansion of the original, in that it contains all the words from the original, plus a significant proportion of new ones.
