Wow. I shouldn't have been surprised that I loved this book, because I read this author's blog and really enjoy her voice, but still, it surprised me that I traded precious sleep to finish this. Why? I'm not a huge fan of technical language and alien-type stories, I'll be honest. Usually, I'm skimming pages to get to the 'good stuff' which, for me, is the stuff without the strange languages and such. I did not skim even a sentence in True Believers. Everything flows naturally and the reader isn't guessing at what this word or that means. I don't know how she did it, but I'm impressed.

The love triangle in this is not your typical cliche, which is awesome and refreshing. I loved both characters vying for Rachel's attention and while I was ecstatic she chose who she did, I was still sad for the 'loser'. I was actually wishing she could have both.

In True Believers, Maria Zannini created a fast paced plot with many twists and turns, and yet it is never confusing. There are a few parts where I had to read the scene a couple of times, just because I enjoyed the music of the words so much.

And alien sex? Hot. Just saying. Wish I had a Jessit of my own. ;)

Do I recommend? Yes. I'm ordering her other novel [b:Touch of Fire|3698477|Touch of Fire|Maria Zannini|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1266838522s/3698477.jpg|3741989] today.

This story was a lot of fun, and wow, can that Maria write a love scene. **applauds** No unnecessary fluff, all heat. I'm taking notes.

The characters (major and secondary) were very well developed and really stuck with me. I think I liked Michael and Liam more than I did Shannon though, perhaps because I relate better to the darker ones. The only issue I had with this, hence the 4 stars and not 5, was that in parts it felt rushed to me. It didn't ruin the story at all, but I couldn't help but think it should have been a full novel. That's a personal thing though, I think. So I can't really say the author did anything "wrong" here. Just that my brain saw a larger story and wished for more of these characters.

I love how the two "sides" are portrayed here, neither side entirely good and yet, neither is entirely bad. Well done.

Do I recommend? Very much. Maria's writing has a strong, distinct voice and style. Her characters stay with you long after you "close" the book. If you like fantasy, romance, and really awesome love scenes (by the way, no two love scenes is at all the same in this story, I loved that) then you'll enjoy The Devil to Pay.

This series (which started with [bc:The Devil To Pay|11732547|The Devil To Pay (Second Chances)|Maria Zannini|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51vDOqOnnoL._SL75_.jpg|16681366]) picks up pace with Chain of Souls. I think what I like most at this point is that these books are connected, but reading one isn't critical to understanding what is happening in the other. I HATE series that rely on previous books and prefer to be able to pick up any book in the series and not be completely lost. Maria doesn't do this to her readers. Each of these books, so far, could be considered stand-alones.

I read this on Saturday night, when I was supposed to be working, simply because I couldn't put it down. The characterization is brilliant, and Zannini weaves action expertly into this not-so-typical love story. The dialogue was excellent, and you all know how I love my dialogue. Maria wins my forever-fandom for her dialogue alone.

The only critique I have of Chain of Souls is that the love scenes weren't what I've come to expect from Zannini. While they're still well-written, the scenes in Chain of Souls are not, IMO, of the caliber of previous work. For me, they lacked something. But, considering Zannini usually writes beyond amazing love scenes, those in Chain of Souls are still pretty kickass.

I'm very hooked into this series now. In my review of The Devil to Pay, I had said I wished they were one book, rather than a series of novellas, but I'm not sure that would be such a good thing anymore. My kids wouldn't get fed, the house would be a mess, and I probably wouldn't shower until I finished the entire thing, so it's best to have it in installments. :)

I recommend Chain of Souls anyone who is sick of the same old romance, and if you like to read an author who knows what she's doing...I think you should check Maria out as well.

I don't usually go for the non-fiction "self help" type of books, because quite frankly, I prefer to spend my reading time on more interesting endeavors, like Maria's Devil to Pay and True Believers, but Maria requested a beta read before she drafted the final version, so of course, I said yes. Besides, I've learned Maria can write anything.

I loved this little book. I am terrible at budgeting, and the only savings we have is thanks to Kurt, because he has more self control than I do. This book breaks down budgeting in simple terms and makes you realize that it IS possible, no matter how little money you think you have.

I highly recommend, even if you think you don't need to budget. Maria's included some tips for people of all walks of life. Who doesn't like having a little extra cash?

After raeding Smart Budgets, I plan to buy the remaining books in this series as they become available. I heard mention of a food book?
