If you need cheap, down and dirty costumes for Halloween, this is the book. If you want really Elizabethan clothing patterns and history, start with Patterns of Fashion by Janet Arnold.

I have to give credit for Ms Savoy and Winter to get this book out on what they considered Historically Accurate Clothing for Elizabethans 1550 to 1580. As time has gone on we can see that their suppositions and guesses caused more ill than positives for the Renaissance Faire Circuit or anyone wanting Historically Accurate information.

Look at this book via a library, do not pay for it, it is not worth it, except as an iconic view of why Ren Faire dresses as they do!

A decent building block for Elizabethan costuming, and a good beginning guide.

First book out there for us to use for Faires. Good basic info on how to make Elizabethan costumes from modern patterns, teaching fitting, corsetry, accessory building. Couldn't have done Faire in the 1970s without it. A starting place, not the most historical, but a good place to start.
