Held on the second floor in the Bidwell Forum. The Cassini mission was launched in 1997 to explore the ringed planet Saturn and its moons, particularly the haze-enshrouded Titan, which was known to have an atmosphere thicker than Earth’s, despite being less than half as large as the Earth. Cassini arrived at Saturn in 2004, has been exploring it ever since, and will continue to do so until the mission ends in September 2017. Mark Wallace will discuss the history of Saturn science, tell the tale of Cassini’s 7-year journey to Saturn, and share some of the exciting discoveries we’ve made. Mark Wallace is a Mission Design Engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. In his 10 years of experience, he has helped develop concepts for robotic and human missions for Venus, the Earth, Moon, Mars, asteroids, comets, and beyond. (lwbooklover)
