The author brings the reader from the first shots of the Civil War to the capture of New Orleans by the Union. The books briefly describes how Union Naval Officer David G. Farragut was able to capture the city. The story ends with how the Confederacy suffered without control of New Orleans.
The book is illustrated on every other page with lively pictures that make the story more interesting. The book closes with a brief glossary, index, a list of primary sources used by the author, and a suggested website for readers.
Overall, I found this to be a great book that I was able to read quickly. I will definitely use this book when I explain to my class why the Union was able to win the Civil War.… (mere)
