- B. B. Tyler waa a son of Rev. and Mrs. John W. Tyler. He was born in Long Creek township five miles east of Decatur, April 9, 1840. His father was one of the early ministers of the Christian church in Illinois and he successfully established churches of that denomination in many sparcely settled districts.
B. B. Tyler grew to a young manhood on the farm by desiring to follow in the steps of his father he attended Eureka college and on his graduating from that institution he at once embarked on his work as a minister. He held pastorates in Charleston, Terre Haute, Ind, Frankfort, Louisville, Ky, New York city and Denver color. His last pastorate was in Denver where he was pastor of the South Broadway Christian church. He became know nationally as a minister and a polished orator.
He visited his relatives in Decatur occasionally and on those occasions occupied the pulpit at the local Christian church. It was always a delight to listen to his sermons which were always eloquent and scholarly.
He was educated at Eureka College, Eureka, Ill., and held pastorates in his denomination at Charleston, Ill. (1864-69), Terre Haute, Ind. (1869-73), Frankfort, Ky. (1873-1876), Louisville, Ky. (1876-83), and New York City (1883-1900). Since 1900 he has been pastor of the South Broadway Christian Church, Denver, Col. Since 1893 he has been a member of the editorial board of the St. Louis Christian Evangelist. He was also a member of the International Sunday School Lesson Committee in 1890-1908, and while in New York was a member of the committee on versions of the American Bible Society. He has written History of the Disciples of Christ (New York, 1894).
