Las historias de Roma suelen hablarnos tan solo de las élites dirigentes y de su cultura. Este libro, por el contrario, se refiere al pueblo romano: a la masa de 50 a 60 millones de artesanos, trabajadores, campesinos, mendigos o esclavos que formaban el 99% de la sociedad y que compartían una cultura integrada por sus estrategias de vida y por sus formas de entretenimiento, en ocasiones netamente subversivas.

Excellently "translated" by Jerry Toner, though I suspect Marcus Sidonius Falx thinks more about his slaves' humanity than the average. Hilarious and heartbreaking and gutwrenching reminder of the slavery-based foundations of Rome in specific and many cultures in general, including that of the US (the country where I live).
