Elliot Tiber was born Eliyahu Teichberg in Brooklyn, New York on April 15, 1935. He received a bachelor's degree from Hunter College in 1956 and a master of fine arts degree from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He was an interior designer, a filmmaker, playwright, college professor, LGBTQ vis mere activist, and an author. In 1969, he helped find a location for the Woodstock Festival. His memoir Taking Woodstock was published in 2007 and was adapted into a film in 2009. His other memoirs include Palm Trees on the Hudson: A True Story of the Mob, Judy Garland and Interior Decorating and After Woodstock. He collaborated with Belgian filmmaker Andre Ernotte on the 1975 novel and 1976 screenplay for Rue Haute, which opened in the United States as High Street.
