Flash of the Spirit: African & Afro-American Art &… af Robert Farris Thompson
If you are a student of Astrology, you MUST get your hands on this book and study Chapter two, The Sign of the Four Moments of the Sun. The exhibit was at the Seattle Art Museum in 1994? when I attended and I was floored by the intricacy and beauty of the African religions/spiritual systems.
Thompson is one of the foremost academic experts of the topics, associated with Yale university. This is one of his seminal works detailing the sacred grace of african and afro-american art.
Chris Moss, , author, music writer and travel and books editor at Time Out, has chosen to discuss Robert Farris Thompson’s Tango: The Art History of Love , on FiveBooks (http://five-books.com) as one of the top five on his subject - Psychoanalysing Argentina, saying that:
“…The chances are that the word tango is African, perhaps Angolan, perhaps it was the name of the place or a kind of drum. It’s clearly not Spanish. There are early 19th-century sketches of African mourners at funerals moving in a tango-like way and one of them shows black people carrying a coffin and making these strange movements. It’s possible.. .…”.
