Super interesting account of Chrysler Corporation's involvement in the development of the atomic bomb.....both Hiroshima & Nagasaki......published in 1947, not too long after the bomb drops in Japan. A fascinating tale of the extreme engineering and technical effort to accomplish (secretly) the necessary tasks to create what was thought to be the tool to end the war......and the appropriate concern that in the wrong hands, the situation could be even worse. Basically, this is a celebration of Chrysler Corporation's role. I learned much about this effort that i was previously unaware of. I am a car guy first.....and a student of world history second.....so when i found this at a used book vendor in a Maine antique shop, I was parted with my $2.50 in a heartbeat! If you are in any way intrigued by how this all came about, I highly recommend this quick read layout of how it all (very secretly) came to pass. Chock full of scientific descriptions of atomic theory in very understandable terms, and plenty of period photographs showing how it all came to pass. Again, this is 1947, so you have to let go of your 70+ years of perspective.....which i am happy to do.....it is the only way to appropriately explore history honestly (in my humble opinion). Very glad i found it....very glad i bought it.....and very glad i read it!… (mere)
