Laysa is intentionally bratty during the first part of the book, but I felt like it was a bit overdone and so I didn't feel much sympathy for her when she discovered that she was a wanderer. Her parents didn't seem overly bothered with the fact that she was being taken away and she doesn't really seem to miss them that much. I would have liked Laysa's world to have been built up more before she leaves, it seemed a bit all over the place. The story came together much more towards the end where Laysa is getting used to living as a wanderer. I found the other characters such as Guessi very interesting and would look forward to learning more about her and her past, which was hinted at.

I did think sometimes certain plot points would have been better to be discovered rather than explicitly explained or talked about. The story was told from several different perspectives towards the end and I felt that this actually weakened the plot as things were revealed early and thus there wasn't as much suspense. I would rather have found out what was happening and to have had the whole story told through what Laysa experienced and heard.
