Gravity of a Distant Sun is a sequel to R. E. Sterns’ Barbary Stationand Mutiny at Vesta. Once again, Adda and Iridian are in trouble. They are bounced all over the Solar System as they try to catch a ride on the first interstellar expedition. Along the way, they must deal with Casey, a newly self-aware ship’s AI that can influence their behavior by hacking into their neural implants. Sterns does a good job sewing up some loose ends from the first two books.

This needed a better editor. The narration is disjointed, the dialogue splintered, and the level of detail swings between too much and not enough.

After reading this book, I had only one question. Was I entertained? Yes, I was. This book is more like a film that plays in your head as you read it. At least that's what was happening in my head. But, I have watched a lot of science fiction in my time. If you're looking for deep and meaningful, then this is not your book. However, if you're after an easy read to satisfy your 'inner space-opera nerd' then you could do a lot worse.

Stearns, R. E. Mutiny at Vesta. Shieldrunner Pirates No. 2. Saga, 2018.
In this sequel to Barbary Station, our loving couple of Lesbian engineers once again face problems with self-aware AIs, spaceships, computers, and people that need fixing, evil corporate bosses, and a few other surprises it would be too much of a spoiler to reveal. Lesbian romance aside, Mutiny at Vesta is old-school space opera. It seems to me that minor characters were better developed in the first novel, but if you can stomach some of the clichés, the action keeps you engaged. I wish the Ais were more fully developed, but I do like the notion of a virtual workspace that one must take dangerous psychedelic drugs to enter. Three stars.… (mere)
