Traci Sorrell writes fiction and nonfiction books, as well as poems for children. Traci is an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation and livs in northeastern Oklahoma where her tribe is located. [adapted from At Mountain's Base, 2019]

A girl and her mother pack up their home in the city and move home to a Cherokee reservation, where they're immediately surrounded by family and friends who help them unpack, show them around, and feed them. As Betsy Bird points out in her review (link below), many picture books about moving focus on the trauma of upheaval and the sadness of leaving a familiar place and people, rather than focusing on the excitement of a new place.

Some words (rhythm, tempo, explore, siyo, home) appear in a different font that resembles handwriting. Back matter includes a glossary with a pronunciation guide.

Cherokee Stickball is not at all like LaCrosse, but the basis of teamwork is much the same.
A good book for children of any heritage to learn about people born in North America. For adults it is a small insight into another culture and some of its ways. It is written in an essentially bilingual format. I really appreciated the read.
The illustrations by Joseph Erb are fun, simple, brilliantly colorful, and instructive.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Charlesbridge via NetGalley. Thank you!

This book was a non-fiction book that was written in a creative format. Each page has a new topic that talks a different topic concerning Native American oppression and it's effects both historically and today. This would be a great resource for the classroom when learning about topics that relate to this book.
This book might be suitable for intermediate students when learning about the history and current culture of Native American people. I would like to use this as a learning resource in a classroom!… (mere)
