This was such an inspiring read for young girls and teens!

Story time: When I was in college, I wanted to major in computer science so I took a programming class. I ended up failing it (the class was A/B/C/no credit so it didn’t hurt my GPA). I just couldn’t understand how any of what we were learning was going to translate into anything. So I gave up on it and now I’m in law school.

Reading this book has helped clarify everything I didn’t understand back in college. This book does a great job walking through how apps are made and also the basics of how coding works.

The book is written in a diary style way with cute illustrations sprinkled throughout. If you think the cover is adorable, that’s exactly the style of illustrations that are in the book. (Added bonus: there are also some cute laptop stickers included!)

The plot is pretty simple, but it worked well for what it was trying to accomplish. As previously mentioned, it walks the reader through how an app becomes an app in a very easy to follow manner. But it also highlights the importance of female friendship and the dangers of social media and the internet.

I also liked that the books touches a little upon IP law (particularly copyright). As a law student, I love IP law. I think it’s so fascinating and important to know.

Uitgelezen tijdens een van de weinige vrije momenten in de vakantie op de bank.

Dit is een op en top meidenboek. Toen ik nog op de basisschool zat bestond deze serie ook al. Het was een van mijn lievelingsserie. Het was leuk om er achter te komen dat de serie nog steeds verder gaat. Dit boek is het 3e deel van 100% Coco. Coco is een modeblogger en alles moet volgens de nieuwste mode. In dit deel gaat ze naar de Teen Vogue University in New York. Iets wat voor bijna niemand is weggelegd, zeker als je nog maar 14 bent. Dit is net is buiten de basisschool leeftijd maar dat maakt niets uit. Nikki schrijft vlot en trekt je mee in het verhaal. Het voelt alsof je echt met Coco in New York bent en je voelt met haar mee als ze tegenslagen ondergaat. Het boek had ik na een half uur uit. Het boek heeft 256 bladzijde, dat kan voor de langzame lezer wel als veel worden gevonden.

Dit boek kan je voorlezen, maar zou ik eerder als voorleesboek voor naar bed dan voor een klas kiezen. Dit komt doordat het echt een meiden boek is en de jongens niet aanspreekt. Voor mij was het leuk om te lezen maar ik zou het niet nog eens lezen omdat ik wel merk dat je voor sommige boeken te oud kan worden, dit is zo’n boek. Dat komt juist door de schrijfstijl, juist doordat ze zo kinderlijk schrijft. Dit is natuurlijk nog geen probleem voor het basisonderwijs.… (mere)
